Can anyone suggest some good Programs.

Ideally I'd like something like Excel but without it being 'clever' and automatically 'correcting' things.

i.e

Removing leading 0's or thinking because a number has an 'E' in it is a scientific notation.

I know there are ways around this but it becomes infuriating after a while.

I'm after something that I can import and manipulate different formats of data, Tagged, CSV, Fixed width, Delimited. #

Cheers,
Chris

turn off autoformat in the options?

There's loads of others, depends what type of manipulation you need to do.

If you want to do graphics and other on the fly summaries there's things like Tableau.

You can always use stuff like SQL Server reporting services to do analysis.

There's even more code type things such as r and matlab/octave that will provide you with lots of specific analysis techniques in libraries.

Depends on what you want to do.

Define "manipulate" - what do you want to do with said data?

Why not try LibreOffice. You can import & export to a variety of formats, and connect to a variety of data sources.

Also it's free, so, nothing to lose by trying it.

If you're used to using MS Office, then it'll be a pretty straight forward shift over to LibreOffice.

I've been using it since the days it was known as Star Office.

Will give libre office a go. Thumbs Up
