Street Triple CCT

Noticed the other day when I rode without ear plugs that the Street is sounding rather rattly, suspect worn CCT (its seven years old and just ticked over 10,100 miles at the weekend, oil changed in March).

Here are two videos taken earlier, one after getting to work warm and another leaving cold to give an idea.

Already budgeted for a replacement CCT (recommendations sought!) but wanted confirmation if mine sounds unduly rattly (apologies for poor sound quality), rode it to the parents house after work and laid it up until I can fathom a replacement and the time to fit it if needed.

I thought c.c.t were all automatic and needed checking for freedom of movement, surely yours cannot be a manual set up?

@Marjay, exactly the type of person I was hoping for a reply from, only know one other person with a Triple (09 Daytona) and his exhaust drowns out the engine noise, figured if mine doesn't sound much different to others then it may just be a quirk of the design but had nothing to compare it to.

Mine occasionally gets loud (much louder than yours). I wait for the bike to be fully warmed up, then slow down to crawl in 2nd and WOT to about 10k and roll off. That usually sorts it for another 2k miles.

Apparently it removes the slack and seems to work.....could be imagining it though.


Also, if you use thinner oil, its more audible. Some brands of fully synth 10w40 have marginally lower viscosity than other 10w40 semis and might account for a slight increase in mechanical noise.

Mine got a little ticky a while back. I manually advanced the ratchet mechanism a click or two which sorted it.
Since then I replaced the tension spring which by all accounts seem to be inadequate once a certain tension is required.
I noticed a few mm difference in length between two.
Another vote for decent oil btw, makes a difference.
Also, bare in mind that people sometimes confuse ctt rattle with the noise associated with exhaust header gasket failure.

mine I a little ticky when stone cold, but goes quite after a couple of minutes. mines got only got a shade under 2k on the clock though
