I had a really bad day yesterday. I was leaving {a busy place} getting on my mike. A {white collar person} in another vehicle (precise details will follow when the matter is concluded) was waiting impatriently for my parking spot. He first have my rear wheel a little tap with the bumper of the car. I Shouted at him to stay put, the he got out of the car and ran at me. I got off the bike and (fortunately) side stand down before he got to me. He started punching me in the helmet. As I'm in full view of {many people and emergency services} and armoured to high hell and the person is not a competent fighter I put arms up to defend myself, grab his name badge but don't hit back.

{Venue personel} arrive and it takes two of them to get him off me. They pry his name bage out of my hand and sourround me as if I am the agressor. {eyewitness} raising merry hell becasue she's got a "a babby in't car" I remove helmet and dial 999. {venue personell} keep telling me to get off the phone. I tell them more and more assertively that I wont and they cant take that up with the police when they arrive.

Police arrive, talk to {venue peronel} {white collar person} and {eyewitness} all together in a crowd and then come over all formal and thell me that I'm a lucky boy and the other gentleman won't be pressing charges. Ttey tell me him attacking me didn't happen. Tell me to pull the other one when I claim helmet is unsafe to ride in.

Took me most of yesterday to get bike moved and spare helmet retrieved. Examination of helmet shows hand prints that are unlikely to be ine all over the visor and stress marks in the epoxy around the eyeport and along a ridge in the side.

Complained mightly via 101 and promised a cal back from police this morning that hasn't happened.

Where do I go from here? Who can I get to agree the helmet is damaged. I'm willing to retain a lawyer and go after this guy in a civil case on a point of principle. Was in company car and branded corporate attire if that makes the action plan different.

I'm out of pocket for a £300 helmet and {white collar man} just got away with attacking me, and the police response appears to have been biased by my appearence as a 6'2"(with boots on) hairy biker of ultra hardness. The facts would reveal I'm very ill and can barely walk. I lost count of the number of times the attending police told me to "pull the other one" as it seems they'd already made up their minds.

Well there's more to this story than what you've written there. I'll just pull up a chair and wait a while, if that's ok? Pass the popcorn

Is any of this true, or has someone hijacked the account? It sounds ridiculous.

Name of company?
Name of individual? (trawl linkedin profiles of said company if necessary)
Any cctv in the area that would have caught it?

Making a formal complaint regarding the police action, why are you phoning 101 for that? Confused

Never happened to me, but a black cabbie did exactly that to my father once in stationery traffic, and followed up with "Get that fucking bike outta my way".
No apparent reason. In stationery traffic. With nowhere to go.

You and my late father think alike. Cabbie got pulled halfway through his side window by his throat (he'd locked the door, but the window wouldn't go up fast enough). People in surrounding cars were locking their doors and the woman in the back of the cab was sat frozen looking out the opposite window.
I miss the old boy. Sad

So what was the witness on to think you attacked this guy? Is there CCTV? Did the police make any noises about charges to you or the other guy? Is it going to be dropped ?

If you weren't arrested and there are no charges I'd just chalk it up to experience. The police can't be trusted as far as you can throw them. Everybody seems to have this innate thing that the Police will be on their side no matter what, but sadly this is rarely the case, especially when there is the slightest sniff that you've caused an offence.

Really doubt that helmet's unsafe to ride in.

Get CCTV or really you're out of luck.

If matey boy hit your lid hard enough to damage it, he'd have a broken hand. Especially if he's not a trained fighter.

In these situations, the police will look at where the 'attacking' took place, as the aggressor almost always is the one to travel to the other persons vehicle.

I'd wager there is more to the story.

Didn't you go bonnet surfing, and get run over twice? Thinking

Well, they don't do it to me, but OP certainly seems to attract 'em.

Which ones, and what were they doing while you were battering his fist with your helmet?

If everybody who saw it thinks that it was you that kicked off, is it even remotely possible that your perspective may be a little skewed?

I believe some helmet manufacturers offer a service where they'll check a lid for damage for you (for a fee), and I think some bikey type events have free checks.

Principles are fine, up until the point you're left with a large legal bill. I'd be putting in a complaint to the police regarding the conduct of the officers, and if the guy was working (or maybe even if he wasn't) then put a complaint in to his employer.

The police could have let him off with a caution anyway, and TBH it all sounds rather strange. Check for cctv, as without it I think you're going to struggle whatever you do Sad

P.S. if you can handle a Bandit you're strong enough to deck someone when fully geared up Very Happy Also guessing the guy wasn't too intelligent, punching someone in the head who's wearing a helmet's fairly retarded Razz

Would have paid to see that, I have a special hatred for cabbies. Saw a scooter and a cabbie have a road rage argument the other day, which culminated in them stopping for fisty cuffs. Couldn't make out exactly what happened after (in my rear view mirror) Sad

I got into a bit of road rage too with a cabbie few months ago(after 8 years trouble free cycling/biking in Lond).....He was looking for a fight tbh slammed the brakes and grabbed me before I could get off, pulled my lid with it still strapped on so I was kinda stuck. Had 2 witnesses and he got a caution after being arrested........ That's it
