Hi Guys,

I ended up buying a Peugeot Vox semi-auto scooter (brand new for just over 1k) - it was too late and I had made the purchase before I got the advice on here to not spend time on a tiddler.

The advice was sound as I really want a bike not a scooter - and geared (i did a gearing conversion and it felt great).

The scooter is quite fun but I am trying to choose between:
1. getting a good CBF125 for ~1.5k-2k (selling my scooter with a £500 loss as no one wants to buy it).

2. Or have some fun with the scooter and go for the DAS - not sure for this option is valid or would I need a geared 125 for this?

3. If I need a geared 125cc for option 2, (I know someone at my local bike accessories selling a CBF125 with 30K miles for £700 - not sure how bad that is and if it is reliable Confused )

Thanks.

Hi,

I am not in a great position to offer advice,
But my thoughts are if you have a scooter now, just learn your road craft on that for a while and then go on to DAS later,

I don't have a full license so my opinion may be void,
I have a cbf 125 myself and I reckon you could skip the stage of owning one especially if you already have a scooter

When you do your DAS I presume lending a bike is in the cost with most training centres,
So you won't need to own your own geared bike

If you're 19+ and going for your A2 license, or 24+ and going straight to full A, then in practice you'll be doing it via a training school on their bikes. Your own bike is relevant mostly as a way of practising roadcraft, slow speed manoeuvres, and getting to the training school or instructor.

I've had my CBF125 3 years next month, and I do love the bike, however I am tempted to sell it to fund my DAS, and whats left to put towards something a bit bigger.

I've rode a few 125s, and other than build quality issues (rust - have a search) it is the best one that I have rode. It is bigger than a YBR125 (which was good for me being over 6 foot) and frugal in petrol (I get about 250 miles to a full tank). I have taken off wheels and changed chains which is surprising seeing as I am a spanner-phobe.

Having said that, I might be changing jobs soon, and if I get the job then I will be doubling the amount of miles that I do each day. I don't fancy doing that on a 125, so yeah - mine has served me well and I think you would enjoy a CBF125 but in the long term I think you might crave dat extra powah. If you are old enough, get a DAS done and go for something a bit bigger. Why do a DAS and stick with a 125?
