I'm talking AAs, AAAs, etc.
Where do you buy? Do you bulk buy? Do you go the rechargeable route?

I seem to collect batteries. I have rechargables of different powers for the solar lights we have and for cameras and torches. Whenever I go into Maplins and they are doing the buy 1, get 2 free battery pack offers on their alkaline ones I buy them. Mind you I need them as the grandkids come round with their toys and they eat batteries.

I collect watches so have stacks of different button batteries for them.

The world will end before I run out of batteries. Laughing

For my camera external flash I use Eneloop pro rechargables. Seem to be the best for what I need.

I have a couple of Ltl Acorn trail (wildlife) cameras which have an in-built infra-red floodlight for night time use and can use the mobile phone network to email an image. One stands guard in the garage while the other has stints out in the field or video's hedgehogs in the garden. The cameras are only as big as your hand and run on 12 X AA batteries. I was buying Maplins alkalines in packs of 40 which did quite well but I have recently bought some Eneloop 2500mAh NiMH rechargeables. They seemed to confuse my "smart" Turnigy Accucell 6 charger but a Youshiko YC5000 (also available under several other brand names) charges them individually in sets of 4 and shows their condition too. Some good info about AA batteries here;

If they're the same as the black and red variety they'll be pretty good. Used to acquire them from a poorly locked storage cupboard where I used to work. Saved me buying a play and charge kit for my Xbox, probably cost the company a few hundred quid while I worked there.

wanted some cr2032 for the car fob, got a card of them from the pound shop and they lasted about a day each, halfrauds were at about £8 each and ended up with 10 duracells off ebay for £6

I'm now using enloop brand rechargeable (Brand name by Panasonic)
They are rated the best rechargeable in most any reviews. I just bought another pack from Maplin and paid £16 for 4 AAs.
I also use high capacity cells in a torch I use at work. Nitecore 18560 (18650 is the from the battery dimensions). I just started using this brand's 3500 mAh.
Those 18650s are regularly counterfeited so you must look carefully at where you get them from.

Thanks for all the replies and recommendations. Thumbs Up

I usually either pop down to the local co-op and get bent over or toys-r-us for a slightly better deal.
The last lot of AA came from poundland and they last two uses with my beard trimmer.
I never occurred to me to go on the bay but having seen the links, I'm there!

You can get fake Enloops too, as they're quite popular.

For '1.5v' batteries I'd go with that style and buy directly from a reputable company - ie Amazon, but make sure it's sold by Amazon themselves.

Unfortunately with 18650s it's often even harder to work out. In some case I use a lipo instead of a li-ion for such purposes.

I think the 18650 I use in my ecig was £7 from eBay, 3500mAh capacity. Local ecig shop well the 2500 capacity for £12.

Eneloop / Eneloop PROs are the only batteries I buy now. Used in a selection of item:

LtL Acorn camera
Hope Vision 1 LED light
pH meters / conductivity meters for work
Maglights
LED lenser P7/P3
Digital radio

A decent charger - AuccPower IQ328 - is needed to get the most out of them. They are not like any other rechargeable you've used.

If it has to be a standard battery, then Duracell or Maplin, but most items are now on Eneloops.

Anyone know a usb-powered intelligent charger for ni-mh batteries?

My current one is a Eneloop Usb but these are now discontinued. The majority of cheapo usb-chargers and just dumb ones with such a slow rate of charge it will take all day - esp when out on the road and using my solar panel to charge them.
