Alright everyone,

Well seeing as i passed my test last year id been after a bigger (faster....) bike. Ideally id have liked another 2 Stroke, but theyre getting abit pricey, and id have to restrict most of them anyways which wouldnt have been a brilliant idea. So next on my list is in my opinion the best of the 400 grey bikes! the NC30!! Always liked the look of them and thought i best get in there before they all get collected or smashed up on tracks. Plus its the perfect concoction of late 80's/early 90's styling....

Went to look at a few and managed to get mine for a reasonable price I think, someone had traded it in and i think they just wanted rid. Its not exactly concours, the fairings arnt proper Honda ones, so arnt the best fit, theres loads of odd nuts and bolts on it, few rusty brackets, but then its 30 years old nearly and has done 30oddK miles. I wasnt after a minter anways as they where out my price range and i like messing about Very Happy

When i bought it, in my mates van...

Took all the panels off and give everything a good clean underneath

Cause of my license im stuck on 47hp, so had to set a fit of restrictors Sad wasnt too bad to do, worst bit was getting the bloody carbs back on, you need kid size fingers to do up the clamps...

Always hoover your engine....

Had abit of a mishap on its maiden voyage, managed to lose a piece of fairing along the way... managed to find it in a ditch so spent alot of time repairing and strengthening them all up, made from cheap flimsy plastic so no the best...

Noticed the bracket that holds the clocks and the nose cone on was abit rusty, so took that off and give it a blast and paint

One of my favourite sports bikes this is which made me want to get a full license in the first place... Yours looks really clean i like it, not sure about the single yellow headlamp though. the plastics dont look bad for aftermarket ones, ive seen some fairly shoddy looking replicas... you need to shut that gap in the front fairings though Wink

Sorry.....haha

I think alot of the problem is people around my age just arnt interested in the older machines (or so it seems to me) out of me and my mates, about 10 of us, theres only me who has any interest in stuff that isnt the latest model. New stuff just doesnt do anything for me, its impresseve i agree, but its all abit dare i say, boring?....

I'd love one of these but the price people are asking is ridiculous, also I imagine insurance is at a premium(clearly import bike are dangerous)

That's absolutely lovely... with the exception of the wavy discs, which don't suit the bike at all.

Did some more work on the ViFfeR tonight Very Happy Whilst out the other day, I noticed that it only had one throttle cable, according to my haynes and the internet it has an accelerator and a decelerator cable. So something was obviously up. The throttle shut off fine, and i never had any issues with it. But obviously it wasnt right from a safety point of view Confused so needed sorting.

Ordered both cables from Wemoto for the whopping sum of 20 quid, they came the other day so had a do at fitting them.

Took the seat, tank and the airbox off

https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4576/38224410501_1970c8c5f2_c.jpg666A504B-AFB7-4DF0-BA40-DDBF972DB86A_zpsfuqqyb82 by roboff94, on Flickr

The haynes manual shows an RVF, which is pretty much the same, just uses a different base carb. I really didnt want to take the carbs off, so i struggled abit and managed to get the cables off with out removing them. This was the old one... Fraying at the bar end, and the adjuster had come loose at the carb end, not ideal really

https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4541/37513603774_89948d0198_c.jpgF0197F53-8284-405D-94F4-A5500AD5E313_zpsgwv8hje8 by roboff94, on Flickr

So took the throttle twist grip part off and threaded both new cables in

https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4459/26448001529_338ca17bff_c.jpgB1D45A09-7269-4683-8D04-E7FBC3BEBA50_zpsefgwd1ne by roboff94, on Flickr

then pulled them through the forks, under the clocks, and through the gap between the frame and the engine, theres a little plastic tunnel for them to go through, got them both fitted in the pulley on the carbs, took abit of adjusting to get it shutting nice and smooth. Snaps back with such a satisfying sound haha

https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4464/26448005299_4a597e2c47_c.jpgB17D0425-BE4F-42FE-B3E6-9DD0E5A0B92F_zpsimb9roxk by roboff94, on Flickr

Put it all back together and started it up, gave the bars a wriggle and the revs stayed the same so all good it seems Very Happy Left it running for while and all was good. Thats about it...

If you find yourself wanting more to do. The v-piece fairing in front of the lower rad wants cutting out (where the holes are). Glue a bit of mesh to the back for protection.

It'll vastly improve the cooling.

Ah man. Looks good, like the yellow light. Did you make the headlight rubbers too? Gonna have to fix mine now I really am. I keep saying/thinking this, but there's no "doing" in me.
Shame about the restrictors Very Happy
That rectifier will be itching to poop itself too, they are like lemmings. Watch out for electrical wonkyness, caused by low/high voltage.

Yeah Tim i noticed they usually have a mesh piece in, is that how the came from factory? could be worth doing.... never really rode it in heavy traffic so havent had it too hot yet.

Cheers mate haha. No the head light rubbers are what came on it when i got it, i thought it was just some old inner tube, but they might be proper ones? I like my yellow light now haha, its grown on me Very Happy I checked out the reg with my meter, all the windings where balanced, and its about 13.7V when its at 5000 revs so i think its all right. All the electrics work so far so i'll keep an eye on them.

Yes from the factory there is a mesh part that is screwed onto the back of the v-piece. The copy Chinese fairing can be very restrictive, coupled with a tired old rad can lead to overheating, especially in traffic.

On my trackbike I lockwired mesh to the rads themselves rather than glue it to the fairing.

The regrec can be rather temperamental, is def something to keep an eye on. Generally the ones with fins work much better than the ones without. Never be tempted to buy the cheap ones and keep an eye on the plug and wiring itself too, if it does fail its known to melt them.

Alright all,

Had a good summer riding the VFR, done a fair few trips out on it, and enjoyed every minute of it! Done a few little bits over summer so thought id update this abit.

Got a paddock stand bought so i could work on it abit easier, was half price off DemonTweeks so was happy with that, means it takes up abit less room in the garage aswell...

https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4512/37513608894_7a28cd6a9f_c.jpg5665C100-07A5-466D-8B58-E562063DDA3B_zpsuprhkcbl by roboff94, on Flickr

Ordered a pressed metal plate for it, i have a deep down hatred for plastic plates, they look naff....

https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4463/38224408091_ce7cd1e40f_c.jpg2933ADE6-759C-4DF4-AA68-50956042091D_zpsnuhjaytg by roboff94, on Flickr

The foot pegs where getting abit knackered, all the rubber was starting to peel off, so got some CNC's ally ones ordered. Ideally id like some TYGA rearsets or similar, but i'll save that for later, so these will do for the time being.

https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4454/26448006839_3d85ec2a82_c.jpg1F84E693-312A-4F3D-B56C-7103A715863C_zps3zixgqrb by roboff94, on Flickr

Managed to get hold of a Solo Seat Cowl aswell off ebay, been looking for one for a while, so was pleased i won it. The colour is a country mile off though... so need to get some paint and get it matched up. Think i'll try and carry on the red bits aswell.

https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4574/26448007319_77553e4b6c_c.jpg05A33262-E558-4050-B3E7-E95615AB49E7_zpsixwbqzro by roboff94, on Flickr

So now i can take the rear footrests off, which i think looks better, and im not insured for pillions anyways. Whilst i did this i wanted to give the tail a good tidy up, i cant see myself getting out to much ovef winter so its a good time to get it done.

The subframe was getting abit scabby and rusty, so decided to take it off and im gonna give it all a good clean up and paint. Also means i can go over the loom and check all that aswell. At least then i'll know its okay. Had to take the coolant tank, brake res, few loom bits off to remove it but nothing too bad. Found a load of skanky nuts and bolts that need changing aswell.
