I never sent out my drivers license to the insurance company. Could I be in trouble for that? I mean I've been riding for a year now, and was never pulled over by a cop or anything, so I suppose on the ANPR cameras I don't come up as uninsured? I do have an A2 license, but I am wondering if there's any point in sending it out anymore, as I've been ridding for a year without a problem. If I got into an accident, would I be technically uninsured?

Did they ask you to?

If you actually have the license you say you have, then you don't need to prove it unless they prompt you to prove it, like in the event of a claim or something.

Also, if you have an A2 license, and your insurance says you have an A2 license, why would ANPR flag you up?

You don't have to actually send any documents to your insurer anything unless they ask for it. Protip, that does mean you can lie and get cheaper insurance, but then if you're caught lying you're absolutely fucked (I.e. if you're pulled over for any reason, or crash and have to make a claim).

I would not send them my license even if they asked. I would tell them they can have a photocopy and that is it because I would have to replace it if they lost it.

Depends what you agreed to do when you signed up.

My insurance (Rampdale) required me to email a screenshot of my driving record and a scan of my CBT certificate, within 20 days of the policy start. In theory they could cancel the policy if I didn't. If yours needed stuff and you haven't yet sent it, best to give them a tinkle I'd say.

All three of my last insurers have wanted a copy of my licence and/or cbt plus NCD.

Check on www.askmid.com to make sure you're actually insured, if you are then I wouldn't worry as most state they'll cancel your policy within 20-30 days if the docs aren't received.

Never, ever, initiate any conversation with an insurer unless it's absolutely necessary.

If the bike is showing as insured then forget about it.

I forgot to send mine.

Got a letter and email last week saying they'd cancel in seven days if I didn't, so I promptly did.

No need for an insurance company to be asking to see your physical licence at all since the abolition of the paper counterpart.

All they should need now is an access code you can generate using your driver and national insurance numbers so they can look up the DVLA database.
