I don't usually do this, but. You called it. Tell me the presenters you'd have picked instead then.

Rory aside, who I have to say I really don't get but I don't find immensely frustrating (I do with Jason Plato or Tiff - they can FRO), who' would you put over and above Chris Harris for presenting on a car related driving show?

As for MLB - well, he's American but he's white and a petrol head. Are you suggesting 2 out of 3 really is bad against Meatloaf's best advice?

I'm currently reading Richard Porter's book "..And on that bombshell". He's Sniff Petrol and the ex Script editor for Top Gear.

It sounds like various people come up with ideas, and then the presenters riff on them and add their own input etc. No one person wrote the script, but the person involved in each film would have had a massive input. My feeling is this was very much a Clarkson baby.

And he had such autonomy in production of that sketch over the same people in the background now that have had to hire an ethnic mix of presenters to tick boxes?

Really??

I don't think the BBC care too much about being mocked (W1A for example), but Clarkson seemed to know he was pushing his luck, and was already on his final warning when he thumped that producer Very Happy

Something the BBC are deliberately bypassing to tick diversity yogurt weaving boxes.

Nor is it mine but I wasn't asking you to put them in role, it's a simple enough question to deal with - who would you have put in over those already chosen?

I'd let you have that if you weren't so adamant on the second part of your statement. Deliberate avoidance; yogurt weaving. Or perhaps they were just the best available at the time maybe?

Or maybe it's a sad reflection of our current national situation. Our once proud nation now cannot produce a single white television presenter - because Sharia Law.

Colin Furze.

The sofa-guests tend to be much more personable and natural in front of the cameras. Theatricals, stand up comics, all sorts of live performers are more suited to what they need.

Given the budgets they're flinging around, they could have bunged a sack of cash to one of them.

Names? Ross Noble (tank[*] owner, biker). Jay Kay (petrolhead, biker).

[*] OK, self propelled gun.

Another obvious candidate. I can't see her or any of the other known quantities turning it down, so it does beg the question of why they went with a couple of YouTubers and smell-the-fart.

The diversity mandate aside, I suspect they had a mandate to "nurture new talent" or some other such bollocks.

That's maybe fine on some Channel 99 show that only needs to cover its catering budget, but it's a bad gamble to take while flushing millions on your flagship global brand. A gamble that you'd only make with someone else's money. (#LicenseFeeThread)

Did you watch that show? She was AWFUL on camera. Totally and utterly wooden and just like she didn't have a clue where she was or what she was doing.

Thus establishing that she's fully qualified to present New Top Gear.

Classic cars are often wooden. Top gear is more of a laugh. If you think she's wooden, then watch the race with the
other overseas top gear hosts in the car on top of another car race. She looked like she was having a right laugh to me.

Out of the 3 presenters, 2 I'd never heard of and one was only famous for being in Friends. Is this really the best the BBC could do?

Token BME (tick) Turkish Cypriot, looks a bit Arab/Asian (tick) American (tick) German woman (tick) Irish dwarf (tick).

Do you really think this is just by accident and the BBC weren't pitching for a worldwide market over a British audience?

It's irrelevant who I would have put in place, i'm the viewer, not the Top Gear production team. As a viewer and funder, it's my job to decide whether the BBC Production team picked the right candidates.

You really are the world's grumpiest racialist Laughing I was thinking of writing in this colour just in case the automatic black font offended you; do you really think the font colour is black by accident?!

Do I think it's by accident? Well, it doesn't make any difference to me really, because I'm not bothered about that sort of thing; it gets you right in the feels though, doesn't it Wink My gripe with you on this is that you're throwing out the comments with absolutely nothing but your own prejudice to back them up. Twice asked, twice refused to name anyone better; but it can't just be that the best people available at the time happened to be as multi-cultural as a board meeting at the UN?

Harris is an extremely successful motoring journalist across a range of media and has earned a very large fanbase. Whether you'd heard of him or not, lots of others have and have followed his stuff for years.

MLB isn't everyone's cup of tea, but he's a household name that'll keep the female viewers happy. He's a huge petrolhead and proven on screen.

Rory I have to say I don't get, and is the weakest of the line up from an experience point of view. If I were to throw out the token assertions then it'd be there I'd say the evidence lies. But again, he has a background in presenting on geek / male-orientated product. It's not a slam dunk for me that he was plonked in because he's black. The fact he is black, of course, would no doubt be considered a bonus. The fact he's young would also stand to make the same point.

Colin Furze I've not seen much of, can't really comment.

Ross Noble is funny on stand-up but very one dimensional on telly - did you watch his freewheeling motorcycle programme? It was dire.

Jay Kay has no presenting experience whatsoever; I'd be as qualified as he.

Paired with that smarmy, no socks, loafer wearing Quentin Wilson it made a potentially decent show unbearable.

Fuck sake like Laughing

I like the revised format. The presenters feel a little forced but have noticeably got better after 3, the show format is good and the camera work and sequences are up there. I don't find Chris shouty but you can see he is being set up as the annoying geek character that gets poked fun at.

As to their ethnicity, didn't bother me. Le Blanc is a genuine petrolhead and has appeal thus draw, the other two are from YT thus offer a different type of draw and seem pretty competent.

And we can still watch the other 3 dicking about on the GT. Moaners gonna moan Laughing

Worth a watch although I think he has a screw loose, would be horrible in this role.
