Recently after my wife noticed I had taken a sudden interest in looking at bikes she offered to buy me one for my 60th birthday this July. I had always fancied a Honda C90 but second hand prices are crazy here in Argentina so I turned my attention to something more up to date. Only needing a little run-around town job I decided to go for a Honda Wave costing 24000 pesos (around £1200 in real money). However finding a new one was proving difficult as it has been discontinued and replaced by the Honda Biz. Being only a few thousand pesos dearer I have decided on one of them. I know nothing about bikes to be honest however my gut feeling says this is the one for me to get some confidence on the road.

Next step before I get my hands on the bike is to obtain a license. A blood group test and eye test is needed in order to make an appointment to sit the theory test. My Spanish isn't fluent so my wife will be allowed to translate the multiple choice questions for me. In my small town a practical test isn't needed which is a bit of a relief although I had heard when they used to have one it was a bit of a farce anyway.

I'm a touring cyclist of many years having ridden all over Scotland as well as abroad including here in Argentina so hopefully that at least will put me in good stead for transferring to a bike with an engine. Still feeling a bit nervous although I am really looking forward to it all.
I shall keep you informed with my progress. Very Happy Great forum by the way with lots of useful info.

Good for you. My old mate used to get away at weekends on his Cub 90 when he was in his 70's....I'd go on my push bike. We'd pitch our tents in Glen Falloch for a couple of nights sitting by a camp fire putting the world to rights. Great memories.

Cycling is indeed a great basis for motorbiking - you'll have the appropriate amount of paranoia. And there's plenty of fun to be had with smaller capacity bikes.

Welcome, and as said, you are never too old to ride as long as you can physically handle the bike. Thumbs Up

Thanks to all for making me feel so welcome it's much appreciated.

Yes that's the Honda Biz thanks for posting the pic. Thumbs Up From what I gather it's been available in South America for a while although they tend to mostly buy Gilera bikes here as they're about 30% cheaper.
As for the wife offering to buy me one....ulterior motive I reckon. I think she just wants to use it as well.

Be wary of her cleaning habits...a sigh when approaching the laundry basket may indicate she wants you to start washing your own bed-time socks!
