I'm sure there are people on here that have been on them. Just come off prozac/fluoxetine after a 3 year stint following a nervous breakdown. Been feeling normal for around 2 years and decided to come off after a spell of tapering. They really helped me initially but no longer have the address and pain in my life so I'm done.

I've been off them now for around a month, last week my stomach has been in knotts, like a dull ache which is affected by certain foods. Just feels uncomfortable as hell... Just wondering if anyone else on here has experienced this? I see it is a common withdrawal symptom but can't find out how long it takes to right itself.

It feels exactly like the pain you get in your stomach after being kicked in the nuts.

Sucks a bit!

I was on a different medication for 18months, but yeah it was an unpleasant experience coming off them, especially as I wanted to come off them much sooner, but was advised not to while I had an unrelated illness diagnosed after 6 months taking the bloody things.

I went 2-3weeks at a time not taking them, but felt awful with they symptoms you describe, and tiredness and being generally lethargic. I had to follow the doctors programme of taking them every other day for 2weeks and then every 4days, which slowly got me to get used of not having them in my system I guess. I was fully off them after 1month and feeling OK most days there after, but the stomach pains were still an occasional issue, but far less often.

I now have very mixed feelings on medication for stress, depression or anxiety problems.

Good luck with getting off your meds and if your doc suggests it I would try taking it once a week or so until you feel it's having no effect.

Thanks for the reply. I'm doing ok, getting blurred vision, headaches, dizzyness etc. But not too bad.

They saved my life in a way but I'm done with them. Hate being on meds. If depression returns in going down the unconventional route.

I know fuck all so should maybe butt out but....

The pain maybe just butterflies?

https://www.anxietycentre.com/anxiety/symptoms/nervous-stomach-anxiety.shtml

Probably just your system is still adjusting to the change in chemistry.

Try something to calm your nerves (not drugs). Sugar, chocolate, melissa tea, menthol... The pain sure is just psychosomatic. Thumbs Up

I get something this all the time, It could be anxiety based. I've had on-off anxiety problems since my ex was severely depressed and I ended up worrying about her constantly. This resulted in a number of consequences including me developing irritable bowel syndrome and eventually the breakdown of our relationship.

Every now and again it returns when I'm particularly stressed.

What has this to do with Fluoxetine you ask? Well, she wasn't suicidal until she started on that, and although we just thought that it was her symptoms worstening. After I left, she withdrew from the drug slowly, and is now very well. She said the nagging buzz in her brain that prevented her from concentrating, that caused her to feel anxious about every action is gone. Weird huh? Could the very drug she was taking to improve her symptoms actually be making them worse? I don't have enough evidence to say, but empirically that would seem to be the case.

I'm going to avoid any kind of antidepressants as much as I can, and I do occasionally go and see a counsellor about my problems if I'm feeling a bit down. I've been on a constant positive improvement curve since I left her two and a half years ago, but I do occasionally dip back in that direction. I don't plan to stay there... Counselling is effective for me and I'm lucky in the sense that I'm self aware enough to know when I need to do something.

Fluoxetine has suicidal thoughts as a potential side effect in the leaflet. Some people completely lose their shit on it. I had no negative side effects... along with depression and anxiety!!!! ha ha

Hang in there Bubbs. It'll pass and you'll feel good again. It just takes a while to get the system clear and used to not having the drug in there.

I've been self-medicating my depression and anxiety on and off since I was 17. The children help with the depression. Alcohol helps with the anxiety.

I wouldn't expect things to take longer than a couple of months for everything withdrawal related to right itself.

It'll partially depend on how much you were taking and how quickly the tapering was done.

The decrease in serotonin (and the temporary serotonin deficiency) often causes gastro/intestinal issues in addition to various muscle cramps. If you’ve been on them for 3yrs, it will take approximately 6 weeks for most of the fluoxetine to clear your system. Hopefully, what you’re experiencing will then subside. However, if you’re unlucky, it may take another 4 weeks or so for things to calm down while your body and chemistry adjusts.

Sounds like anxiety to me. Do you get butterflies in your stomach, especially when you're lying in bed trying to sleep? Alcohol does help but there are obvious downsides to this.

I still get anxiety symptoms 3 years after coming off antidepressants. Life management is the way forward. If it helps, I find caffeine, chocolate and anything sugary (like sweets) makes it worse. I don't drink caffeine after mid-day, and make sure not to have chocolate or sugary stuff too late in the day (unless it's Friday and I'm drinking alcohol which suppresses it).

Over 10 years ago, I took Seroxat for 6 months. Coming off that was horrendous. A lot of the symptoms were quite flu-like. I'd also get these constant head zaps; I'd suddenly lose my balance and felt like I was going to pass out. Terrible mood swings, couldn't sleep then sleeping for 16 hours. Feeling hot, cold etc. I was all over the place. I took 6 weeks off work as I could barely function.

It was still a bit crap until about the 8 week mark, but I felt infinitely better after 6. Definitely not an experience I'd wish to repeat.

I came off Citalopram in March this year after being on them since January. Not a long time, I know. The medication ruined my sex drive (not like I had one in the first place) but made me a lot happier.

Coming off them was easy...I reduced my dose to in every other day then stopped when I ran out. Luckily I never experienced any withdrawal, hopefully for you Bubbs it passes as soon as it can

Citalopram was fuckin' horrible to stop because some genius decided the best way to do it was cold turkey at the same time as stopping Lorazepam cold turkey. Laughing

Mine was citalopram too. I did over 2weeks without any, but it slowly makes you feel fucking crap. I had lots of issues from sickness and stomach pains to feeling like I wasn't living the same life as everyone else, and having plenty of negative thoughts and feelings.

Saying that it's taken me a long time to get used of having my testicles removed, not in the missing parts but the fact that's changed me, my moods and temperament, and sometimes I've got this feeling of like little angry man syndrome that I guess I feel like I'm compensating for what I assume is a lack of testosterone compared to before?

Tldr: physical changes seem to affect mood and personality at least as much as medication can do from what I've seen and am experiencing.

Got em chopped off due to the bad aids or something like that they told me! Laughing

Seriously that program that was on about the fat bloke with the 10stone bollocks, I almost knew how he felt almost lol! I was carrying a large orange round in my boxers, and had to do the 6months in baggy board riding shorts thing.

On topic, I'd have binned the meds alot sooner but when my swingers started going all mutant, doc said I should stay on the head meds until it was sorted out.
