Hi guys,

Just wondering if anyone knows how to fix a jumping needle on a speedo for a 91 Honda cd250u?

I bought a new cable but that didn't fix it. My bike isn't worth much so don't want to spend too much on trying to fix it but being a learner, I would like to know what speed I'm doing.

Any advice would be much appreciated!

Thank you!

Bugger. Mine did the same, really pathetic attempt at being a speedo. Wasn't the speedo drive though, the clock was knackered. Instead of getting a CD250U clock for ~£40 on ebay I got a random CB clock that looked like it'd fit for £10. It does mostly fit and reads accurate enough in a non wobbly fashion.

Probably should have got the CD clock though as the legs don't quite fit the mounting bracket so the rubber damping doesn't quite fit, so it may well eat itself again. Also the trip reset spindle is missing off the one I got - bugger.

My pan did this for a few days, was bouncy between 30-40. Stopped a while after. Was the drive, the pin that the cable slides onto snapped off.

Have you had the wheel off recently? I did and I think the drive rotated around further than it should of, putting strain on the drive.

Check the alignment of the drive unit.

Smallfrowne - i cant seem to find a replacement part on ebay. Have you seen any lately?

R1stu- my friends had the exact same bike with the same issue. No, havent had the wheels off. Bought it recently off a guy who said its been like that since he had it. Other than speedo issue, its in perfect condition.

Thanks guys!
