PostPosted: 10:11 - 04 Jun 2016    Post subject: Another DVLA Fuck Up Reply with quote

Just had a letter from the DVLA addressed to a friend of mine through my door (he's never lived here, never had any correspondence with this address, but we did live together at another address for a period of time ).... I've opened it and it's a license renewal form.

WHAT THE FUCK?

I've rung the DVLA, had a right go at the girl on the phone - she said sent it back to us. I said how are you going to know where to send the form out if you think he lives at this address? She said 'we use a third part company to check for other addresses'

WHAT THE FUCK?

Why are they using a third party company and not their OWN records?

He's got 3 or 4 vehicles registered with them, and a licence. What a monumentally useless company!

It really worries me, the only time his name as ever been associated with this address is when I got a closing invoice for the council tax sent as I was the one paying the bill - so I reckon a) the council have passed on the details to this company and b) this third party company are used by the DVLA.

Of course she would do nothing as I'm not the licence holder.

LIVID.

I'm annoyed that I didn't ask for the details of the third party company so I could ring them.... didn't think of that.

Option 1: ask your friend.
Option 2: Write 'return to sender' on the envelope and put it in the nearest postbox.

You probably shouldn't have told them that you opened it. Wink

"Not known at this address" in big red letters on envelope, bung in letter box. Also tell friend about it.
It's not your problem.

If he is actually a friend why would you put return to sender on it. Fucking hell just hand it to him or forward it on. If that's too much effort, you're not friends.

Sure bitch at the DVLA for being shit but don't be a dick to your mate.

Had the licence renewal form through my father in laws door for his wife recently, for when you are old and gave to renew.

Only problem is, his wife died over 30 years ago...

They've probably got the address from one of the credit reference agencies, they save all linked addresses. If they don't know where he is, they might be sending letters to linked addresses.

It might be worth checking your credit report to make sure there aren't any other links you don't know about.

I thought they revoked your license if they can't contact you (happens surprisingly often with drivers at work). Seems strange they would resort to (trying to) track people down, unless they had a fine waiting for you Smile

As I said in another thread.
My licence was up for photo renewal.
I recieved a form in the post, another form arrived at an address I last lived at 10 years ago, my ex FIL, forwarded it to me!
I've sent off the one I got at my current address.
I'm seriously considering sending off the other one for a spare, should I need it! Wink

So turns out he had one sent home as well - so he can send that one back to them and I'll return this one with 'does not live here and has never lived at this address'

The point I was trying to make was that the DVLA are now resorting to third parties to get information - and that the council where we used to live had passed the information onto the third party ( without my consent).

Madness. You'd think they'd try the registered address on the license before they sent out other forms wouldn't you!

Anything to cut costs innit? But do things on the cheap and you'll get what you pay for.

Could have been the bank, TV rental company, utility supplier, etc. These were all compared in the 1980s to trace those who had tried to skip on some of their debts, so suspect even more easily done now.

All the best

!

Just about all companies use 3rd party companies to check address (such as experian, equifax and other credit ref co's) As they are the best source of update details on people.
Could be they sent to your address as the "Friend" had not replied to his letter in a decent time frame.
As to not giving consent.... Its all in the small print, that your data can be shared with relevant parties.

Best bet is to never pay for anyone else and then they won't get such data.
