The ninja 300 is close to the power limit for A2, so by getting a ZXR400, you won't be gaining much, except a better sound. Assuming you restricted it of course.

The ninja 300 is also much more reliable, probably cheaper to insure as well. I'd stick with it until your time is up, then buy a Fireblade when you get your A.

A ZXR in fine fettle will be reliable, but like most 400's about 2 in 10 are actually worth buying. As an enthusiast purchase then go for it, but as an everyday bike for someone with little experience i wouldn't bother. I can see your point though, the 300cc twins are shite.

Are you going to keep asking the same question over and over until you get the answer that you want?

Youth innit.

If OP wants one, he should buy one, it'll either end up as a rolling spares source or he'll suddenly become a wiz at working on il4's.

So I was looking to pick up a zxr400, but people keep on telling me to get something else instead, because it's an old carb'd sport bike and I will likely have engine problems. The thing is I really want a supersport-like bike for my A2 license, with an inline 4 engine, as I am really bored of my Ninja 300. Any thoughts?

FFS.
Remember me telling you to join and ask in the zxr400 forum, which you did join and ask...

Well bigger off back there and ask them.
They are honest guys who will tell you the truth.
