Hi all,

I know these are a problem....

Mine failed 4 weeks ago. Checked the stator out at the time, all good. Replaced the battery too.

This morning when I pulled up at work, there was the horrible burned plastic smell. Sure enough, the AC input plug has melted itself into one lump! Needless to say there was no DC output.

Have checked the stator windings against the Honda factory manual, and the resistance values tally up, and none of the windings are down to earth. Thing is, the manual mentions no AC voltage figures which would be kind of helpful! I know our old Suzuki Kat should have 80VAC across the phases at a given RPM.....

I suspect a short within the reg/rec which has overheated the AC wires and melted the weakest part.

Is it just bad luck with a duff reg/rec, or do I need to dig deeper?

Cheers

Common problem on the Hondas so I've been told, I have a hornet and mine failed last year, replaced it for a genuine one from wemoto and its been fine since.

Switch to a mosfet R/R and solder your connections. It's a VFR, it's a their 'thing'.

ive just had same problem.bought vfr750 on a sat went out sunday and reg/rec got fried.bought new one off ebay.( English one not china) and it lasted 2days!! borrowed one off my nc30 and its been fine ever since.what I did do though was lots of heat sink paste on back of reg/rec and got pc fan off ebay.vfr750 forum has good advice on how to wire up fan to rear brake light switch so fan comes on when ignition comes on and how to mount the fan.you tube or google should show how etc.its a big/common problem on most Hondas, vfrs are the worst though.also recommend carrying a spare reg/rec on bike in future !!
