Hello. Ive looked around online and not been able to find what i want to know about a1 and a2 licences so i have a few questions if anyone could answer them. Thanks in advance.

So, ive got a cbt had it for over a year im 26 been riding bikes most of my life and want to go down the a2 road for licences.

What i want to know is by having a cbt and theory, can i go straight in for my a2 without anything else?

If so what is the cost of that alone?

All replys are appreciated.

Yes, but it's a daft idea. You're 26, do your full A.

You'll be about £200 for both tests and bike hire from a training school I'd expect.

DAS every time, don't waste your time and money on getting an A2 license.

You're going to be paying for training and bike hire so it might as well be training for a full license rather than an A2 one.

At your age you can and should go straight to full A.

Motorcycle theory test: £23 - and yes, you need to do a "motorcycle" theory test even if you've done a "car" one. It's essentially the same with half a dozen bike specific questions that you don't even have to pass.

Module 1 motorcycle test (off-road) £15.50

Module 2 motorcycle test (on-road) £75

The tests are exactly the same regardless of which category that you're going for. What matters is the bike that you do them on. 595cc+ and 40kW+ gets you an A license.

The real costs come in getting access to an insured bike of that capacity for training (when you must be accompanied by a certified DAS instructor) and tests. In practice, that means speaking to the local training schools or individual instructors and seeing what they'll charge you.

One cheap way to practice is to just go and sit the practical tests on your own 125, or at least do module 1. If you can do it on a 125, you'll be able to do it more easily on a big bike.

Thanks for the info. Also do you do anything different in the A2 test to the A test? I know its to be done on a bigger bike, i also heard the mod 2 test was a 3 hour ride, if thats correct is it the same for both tests?

Er, no. It's about 40 minutes, give or take.

Al the tests are exactly the same for any license (except for an AM moped license where there are lower speeds on the module 1 stop and swerve).

There's no reason not to do A, it'll cost you the same as A2.

Call or pop into a local school, Stop listening to "my mate down the pub" because they talk shite.

As said above, a full A licence at your age is the same training, same tests, just a bigger bike.

Mod 1 is off road in a HUGE private tarmac area and on a bad day it will take 15 minutes. You are allocated 30.

Mod 2 is a 38 minute test which includes a number plate check, briefing, radio hook up, show me tell me questions and then a ride so you are on road for around 30 minutes.
