just after some advice on the cards for toll roads in france and italy

Anyone done this, do they work well from jacket pockets?

Is it worth doing?

not planned the italy part but if we do happen to hit a toll road i'm thinking its worth having one of these to save hassle.

They are only a euro a month so seems a no brainer to me?

What cards are you talking about that work on French toll roads?

The only thing I'm aware of for France is the Sanef tag that sits inside the car windscreen. You can use it on the bike too.

As Matt says, can't see how a card would save you any time on sanef. You either need a tag so you don't stop ever, or you will have to stop for the paper effort when you enter the network anyway and fart with that in your pocket so might as well just use your debit card.

You need a Sanef tag for France. It costs to get the tag (30 Euro), then there is an annual fee (6 Euro) and and extra fee for each month the tag is used (5 Euro).

There is no discount at the tolls, in fact it can work against you. Unless you ride up to a booth and hand the tag over to a real person to be read you will be charged at the car rate.

We do France at least 3 times a year in the car, plus I go on the bike a few times. We haven't bothered with the tag due to the extra cost. Only in real peak times when all the French are coming back off holidays are the toll ques a problem.
