Nvidia 1070 / 1080 cards coming soon

Just as I stupidly bought a new 980ti a few weeks ago, hopefully see if I can return it on Monday, otherwise, might be a tasty bargain for someone as I will just knock £100 off what it cost.

Who else is jumping on these new cards? They look phenomenal

They do look very, very good. I'm considering selling my 980, and dropping in a 1080 so I can hook my rig up to my TV and run my games 4K. I thought the 980 would do it, but it's not quite man enough, as I like to bang everything up to max detail.

Surprised at the price of them as well, around £500 for the 1080 is dirt cheap when you consider the price of a Titan X, and the fact that the new card shits all over it.

I paid £571 for it 3 weeks ago, it's the Strix Overclocked edition 980ti

Comes with far cry primal which is unredeemed but the division got redeemed by a mate I gave it to.

Will see tomorrow, going to see what Box say but I think they will tell me to fuck off as I'm on day 21 over their 14 day returns period.

I've not even used it, played GTA for 3 hours and that's it. I bought it to replace my MSI 980ti which had coil whine, they sent a new one, I sold it and bought this stupidly without checking on the new cards coming out.

I don't really game much these days at all, this is about VR for me, no point in not having the latest GPU for VR which is brand new too, will future proof for 2 years at least and with performance of more than a Titan X, it's a no brainer.

I'll be waiting to see what amd bring out, but hopefully they sort SLI VR out on older cards. My SLI 970s are fine but if they start ramping graphics up on VR games one on its own is going to struggle.

Aside from VorpX retro fitting games with VR, triple A titles, etc... most of the games developed specifically for VR now aren't that graphically demanding.

When the big titles start coming out, you're going to need massive GPU power to power them @ 90hz at 2160x1200p and keep it smooth.

it seems we all like to go for the same sort of card.

I have the strixx 980ti non OC edition. I bought mine in December last year so i feel ya pain.

Im happy the 980ti will still kick ass for another year or two then we will see where the cards are at then before i spend another £500.

Hopefully VR will have matured by then and the 1280 or whatever its called then will be 2 x faster than the 1080.

Its an expensive game being the master race.

My 2 x 680 4gb cards are still kicking arse in my other rig. They've got some power in them still, no point selling them, will get peanuts for them when they cost a grand brand new.

Box are entertaining me, I flagged a side issue up which may have got me out of jail on it. The card was idling at 70 degrees, which is insane. Saw it go up to 75 degrees just at idle under zero load.

I flagged this up luckily from the start and got bounced between Box and ASUS but now Box have initiated an RMA for it.

My SLI 680's only just about touched 80 under load with 2 cards right next to each other and reference triple fans.

I'd even quite happily hold credit on my account to redeem against the 1080 in a few weeks. I don't give a shit about waiting for the offerings from all the custom cards, ASUS, MSi, Zotac, etc. I'm not in to overclocking and all that shit, and I believe the "founders edition" will cost £20-£50 more but be over clockable if you desire to do that...

What's your card idle @ blueglue?

Before anyone mentions it, I have 6 fans in my case, 2 x 230mm, 4 x 140mm on push/pull, H60 on the CPU and it aint near any radiators or get abnormally hot in here (I usually always have the window open too regardless of time of year). It aint my cooling in my case, which is a Bit Fenix Colossus.

Some advice if people don't mind:

I managed to get a "new" 970 Gaming G1 from Amazon Warehouse a couple of months ago for £185 and so far it had been excellent and really considering it was new (was only Amazon Warehouse as the box had some damage) it was a complete bargain.
However with the announcement of the 1070 (which would be a natural upgrade I guess) I checked with Amazon and they are still happy for me to send it back to them for a full refund meaning I could put the money towards the upgrade.

Here's where things are fuzzy for me though. If I'd paid full price for it at roughly £270 then the return would be a no brainer and I might as well put that money towards a 1070 for what will likely be a similar price. However really at £185 I paid the price of a 960 for a 970. So given the UK price of the 970 has always hovered around the £300 mark shall I just keep my bargain card or is it still worth getting my £185 back to put towards a 1070? I recognise this might be a difficult one to answer with any certainty before benchmarks and proper aftermarket prices get announced but I would really appreciate some advice from people who know how these GPU gen upgrades normally go.

P.S I play at 1080p at the moment but would like to invest in at least a 1440p screen soon.

If it was me, I'd keep it till I needed to upgrade. Don't have a 4k TV yet and have no problems running 1080p on the 970.
Of course if you want the latest and greatest amazon would of had it back by now

Just got a 2nd GTX970 for SLI so i can play Fallout4 nicely at 4K. The current single GTX970 works fine but just gets a bit sluggish when there's lots happening.

But hmmm ... these look like an entirely sweeter thing.

No brainer for me, for pretty much the same price, I get brand spanking new tech which is insanely more powerful (twice a titan was it?), etc etc.

I would upgrade if I were you Jonny but it's up to you at the end of the day.

Some tasty looking cards out and the Ti editions are at least end of the year / early next year I reckon.

Still currently fighting with Box to get a refund on the 980ti but not sure what's going on until tomorrow.

Makes sense, makes no sense me selling those 680s at all, would get about £50 for them each, still power houses of cards when in SLI as well.

Soon as I get this 980 issue sorted, need to get on the Vive bandwagon.

980ti is back with me, there's nothing wrong with it, I was trying to get a refund and was just going to get the 1080 but I will keep this for 6+ months and wait for the 1080ti.
