Well if it isnt broke......

To be fair they look pretty good for what they actually cost. And a big improvement over those giant original indicators Smile

Update of this weeks progress

All thats left now is to get the bodywork fixed, theres a small crack above the right indicator so thats still needs repair with some fiberglass and q bond, and 4 of the panels will have to be painted. Then theres the petrol tank, Im trying to find a 2nd hand one in the right colour. If i can replace instead of repair it'll save me around 160quid

Anyway, the original side panel was already cracked when i bought the bike but its beyond repair and theres no point in repainting a damaged panel. so i got back on the phone to a breaker and i bought this silver one for 20 something quid, posted to my door
https://i1218.photobucket.com/albums/dd404/SeanS91/My%20Motorbikes/DSC_2112_zpsoti0exyl.jpg

The front indicator adapters fitted nicely, but i wouldn't find any shaped to fit the rear fender and had to make my own...
https://i1218.photobucket.com/albums/dd404/SeanS91/My%20Motorbikes/IMG_4866_zpst5utyad6.jpg

The cam shaped pieces are a part of the original indicator stalks which i took apart, they needed to be flattened out with a hammer and have the bolt holes filled and then i gave them a coat of satin black paint. The plastic pieces i cut out of a spare mudguard i had leftover for my old honda CRM250 and drilled holes to size. The idea is that the metal pieces sit on the outside of the fender to blank the cutout for the standard indicators, and act as a bracket for the new indicator. Whilst the plastic piece sits on the inside of the fender, and the nut&thread of the indicator clamps the two pieces tightly together

I bought some of those chinq Pazzo replica levers, £20 well spent! actually really nice quality and i dont say that about chinese stuff easily Cool

https://i1218.photobucket.com/albums/dd404/SeanS91/My%20Motorbikes/DSC_2492_zpshdro2grc.jpg

And a 350mm delkavic exhaust arrived at the door yesterday Smile

Just look at the size difference Laughing i havent had either on the scales but its incredible how heavy the original exhaust is

Shes getting there Cool some nice touches, i like how youve taken the time to make some tidy brackets for the indicators, as apposed to what most people would do, and drill new holes in the rear underpiece, leaving ugly holes exposed on both sides. Nice work Thumbs Up

Thanks. And yes it shouldnt be long now, i just need to find a replacement tank in the correct colour. Which leads me onto a question for you BCF guys. Where can i look that might have a fuel tank in the original black for this bike? Ive been keeping an eye on ebay mostly, but because it needs to be a specific colour and not one of the more common colours, ive not had much luck

Have you tried German eBay? Or other countries? Other than that you'll have to paint one.

Ive tried ebay germany italy and france but with no luck. Theres a few black tanks on ebay uk but not in tidy enough condition to replace mine. I did find this bike being broke for parts on ebay uk -> https://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/YAMAHA-R6-YZF600-BREAKING-ALL-PARTS-CARBS-ENGINE-FRAME-WHEELS-FORKS-ENQUIRE-/122044699417?nav=SEARCH
Its been two weeks and they still havent got around to removing the tank and are now ignoring my messages Rolling Eyes

Its starting to look like i'll have to have a tank painted, i have a guy who says he can fill the dents in my tank and repaint it in the original colour with the decal for 200quid. but that is a last resort, if i can get a replacement tank in reasonable condition for 50 id rather do that

I havent fitted the delkevic can yet, but ive been told it makes a good noise Smile im using a tatty old titanium can for the moment

You come across mechanics sometimes which you need to keep on at just to make them 'get on with it' but then you risk them getting frustrated with you, clueless as to why they're being nagged Laughing

The problem with breakers bikes as well is they've usually been thrown down the road at some point, hence why they're worth more in parts. sometimes parts that look tidy on ebay arrive and you find damage that wasn't visible in the pictures. that 'street fighter' cat looks to be in good nick though, but It seems to me you like everything to be in top condition, so you should still consider spending the extra dosh having your old tank sorted out. At least then you know what to expect.

one thing about those levers mate, try and get the spacer out of the clutch lever... the brake lever looks about the right size.. but if you fit that clutch lever without the spacer you will have a lot of play and the lever will wriggle around*

that's the way mine were on my 'cat. I've since gone back to the stock levers

There is a bit of play in the clutch lever but i dont notice it too much, finding a spacer that fits around the bushing is on my list of jobs to do though Smile

I have actually got a tank now, the breakers pulled through in the end. However its leaking fuel out the bottom of the tank, where the fuel tap bolts on. It never leaked on the old tank so i dont know whats going on with it. The tap has a rubber seal in it but theres no gasket that could of been lost

Any Suggestions please??? Confused

if you've swapped your old tap to this new tank, it could be the rubber seal needs replacing.. or potentially you haven't tightened it enough.

you could remove the tap, clean up the mating surface with alcohol, clean up the seal and add some vaseline or similar to it. has worked for me in the past.

fuel tap repair kit is around 30quid or so.

are you sure its not leaking from the hose?

Hi sharpe,

i took the fuel tap/ petcock off and the seal looks flattened, right down to the metal surface in places so fair to say it wasnt sealing shit Rolling Eyes
Ive applied some gasket sealant i bought from halfords and (touch wood) it's stopped the leak. Now ive been able to ride down to fowlers and pick up a new seal

Thanks everyone who offered their advice on this as well, doing work on my bike myself is still a bit of a learning curve for me at times

Update

The fairing is at the bodyshop being repainted and having a crack repaired, and i should have the bike back together completely in 10 days time. The cat however wasnt looking so hot this morning
https://i1218.photobucket.com/albums/dd404/SeanS91/My%20Motorbikes/DSC_2139_zpslnjgcg5t.jpg

But the breakers came through in the end and i got my new tank yesterday, its in nice tidy condition considering its 18 year old paintwork Theres a few scratches here and there but no dents or anything nasty
https://i1218.photobucket.com/albums/dd404/SeanS91/My%20Motorbikes/DSC_2126_zpspm9ssrw3.jpg

The new tank is a lesser metallic shade of black than the old one, but in reality i dont anyone apart from me would notice...
I also found out the paint on my bike is a genuine UK yamaha colour, except it wasnt used on the thunder cat... Also there is german writing on the VIN plate so this could support what weasley said about it not being a UK bike

The two tanks, the old tank is the one with the fuel cap still on. you cant really see from the picture but it has two dents in the sides, not severe but enough to make me want to change the tank
https://i1218.photobucket.com/albums/dd404/SeanS91/My%20Motorbikes/DSC_2133_zpsqfovkfgq.jpg

Somewhat re-assembled

If it's a German bike there is an extra drain hose from the fuel filler cap area, meaning there are 4 total drain hoses, rather than the usual 3.

thanks, its coming along nicely Smile

got around to changing that petcock seal today, the tank has been on and off about four times now, which is fun when the fuel line and sensor wiring are tightly packed underneath and can be a pain to connect Rolling Eyes

well, you can see why the old one failed, its barely three quarters the thickness of the new one...
https://i1218.photobucket.com/albums/dd404/SeanS91/My%20Motorbikes/IMG_5089_zpsr3g4ssjg.jpg

touch of oil around the seal
https://i1218.photobucket.com/albums/dd404/SeanS91/My%20Motorbikes/IMG_5090_zpsaelciys1.jpg

no more leaks.... i replaced the screws for socket caps so i can tighten them more without rounding off the heads, and put a smear of gasket sealant under the very edges of the tap

i never wanted a project when i bought this bike but i guess thats what its become... I didnt want to risk being unhappy with it if the colour of the fairings didnt match, and seeing as im having most of the fairing painted anyway, its logical to have the nose cone and L:H panel painted too
