Before I go trawling through the internet does anyone know of any good helmets that have the option to play radio or that allow earphones to be put through. I'm fed up of using earphones on the bike and don't want bluetooth.

For a good helmet with not-so-good integrated radio (aerials inside helmets tend not to be great in poor signal areas) you're probably looking at a Schuberth with the SRC system. Pretty spendy though.

Alternatively, if it just the "not having plugs in my ears" thing you are worried about, then getting some helmet speakers and wiring them into a plug to go into whatever you are driving your earphones with would work. I did something similar for Mrs Bamt; before moving to Bluetooth intercoms we had a wired intercom. I made up an adapter cable that allowed me to plug her helmet into a radio when she was on her own bike using the existing speakers.

Smiler you have the weirdest problems. What's wrong with Bluetooth? A lot easier to deal with than having to be plugging yourself to the bike every time.

In before the man at the pump does not let me fuel up while sitting on my bike and I am too lazy to unplug from it.

In theory the Sena 20s does..

In practice, not so much.. and it's not just me https://support.sena.com/entries/48117564

If you're thinking of radio from your phone, which some devices support, they require the plug in headphones because that's what acts as the ariel.

Buy helmet speakers instead of using earphones. Much cheaper than a new lid.

Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another.

I have a Vcan helmet which has a built in radio which works well up to about 50mph, over that speed the speakers aren't really loud enough to hear the music properly, if speakers were upgraded it would be better but the radio reception is very good though.

It also has bluetooth so you can use the sat nav on your phone or play music and a built in mic for making/receiving calls.

My one has a flip front too.

Cheers for the replies the reason I don't want to use bluetooth is that one my current phone doesn't have the capabilities to receive fm radio on it's own (Samsung S6 edge). Didn't want to use my mobile data as it will kill it extremely fast. So I was thinking if there was a helmet it would save carrying an extra device around. On trips I normally carry a mobile charger with me anyway in my pocket; saves having wires everywhere.

My last helmet was a Shoei Neotec which was actually quite good and I've still got just needs a replacement visor that I've yet to get. So I'm not scared on spending more for a helmet.

So If I went down the helmet speaker route, can anyone suggest any good external pocket radio that they have used on a bike. With good battery life Question

The scala rider bluetooth units have the radio built in. You don't have to connect your phone to it for the radio to work. Its a standalone device in that respect.

The interphone has a built in radio , I use the fm4 .

Loud enough , good reception , also connects to loads of devices .
My friend got a single set for £120.00 , I bought a pair for £180.00 but now I have to listen to the bird moan , so on goes the radio .

I second this. I have never tried the radio but it does have it and you do not need to connect your phone for it to work.

Just saying, for the benefit of other people who seem to be forgetting that Sammy doesn't actually give a fuck what anyone else suggests...

Sammy, you asked me and a few others what phone is decent.
I said "Galaxy S5 because expandable memory and waterproof"
You ignored me, and everyone else, and bought the S6 Edge.
Then bought an iPod because your S6 doesn't have the capacity to hold all the music you want.
Now you are wanting a radio because the phone you have doesn't have an FM receiver.

Whats the next thing you are going to get?
Small analog TV because you don't want to stream countryfile on your phone while riding?

Craig I went with the edge as it seemed the best in the shop, I didn't purchase an ipod. I use my mobile when I want to listen to music on the move at current.

I'm going down to the local bike shop for new gloves and boots at the weekend got sidetracked earlier in the week. Will check out what's on offer.

So you ignored the advice, which you asked for, and bought a phone that doesn't meet your needs.

#genius.
