Specialist Motorcycle Travel Insurance from Holidaysafe.co.uk; designed by Bikers, for Bikers.

When setting off on your next motorcycle adventure, don’t forget to invest in quality and specialist travel insurance to protect you and your trip against a holiday disaster.

Holidaysafe’s range of Motorcycle travel insurance was created when our own staff, who are motorcycle enthusiasts themselves, realised that there were very few policies which offered affordable and adequate cover for motorcycle touring holidays. This means that our cover is specifically tailored to what motorcyclists actually need when touring.

Our motorcycle insurance starts from as little as £2.74 per day, and can cover single trips or unlimited multi trips throughout the year – in the UK, Europe or anywhere in the World! For more information and to get a free no obligation quote, visit our Motorcycle Travel Insurance page

Key benefits of Holidaysafe’s Motorcycle travel insurance policies include;

Arrow Cover to collect your bike if you are forced to leave it behind due to illness, injury or mechanical failure.
Arrow Cover for your motorcycle apparel and kit including helmets, boots, gloves and tank bags.
Arrow UK, European and World Wide cover available.
Arrow Cover to ride any size bike, as long as you have the correct UK licence.
Arrow Cover for pillion passengers, with discounts for couples.
Arrow Cover for touring, off roading and track events as standard.

Holidaysafe offers a range of policies, including Single and Multi Trip options, so you can choose the level of cover to suit your budget and trip. Our insurance ranges from Last Minute cover for those impromptu trips, to Premier cover, for those who want our highest levels of insurance.

Many bikers spend time researching the perfect international motor insurance for their bike; however they fail to think about insurance for themselves and for their trip when biking abroad. Holidaysafe’s biking insurance protects motorcyclists against any unforeseen disasters when touring abroad or in the UK, such as cancellation, medical emergencies, repatriation plus lost or stolen possessions.

Furthermore, our specialist policies also include cover for motorcycle kit and apparel, benefits if you cannot use your motorcycle, plus cover to collect your bike if you are forced to leave it behind due to illness, injury or mechanical failure.

For more information and to get a free no obligation quote, please visit our Motorcycle Travel Insurance page.

Enjoy what the world has to offer, with Holidaysafe.co.uk.

OK just had a look at this and it does seem very cheap.

Please correct me if I'm wrong but this seems to be Personal cover, which can be purchased for travel in the UK, does this mean this can be used to pick up bikes? Or to have insurance for a day on a mates bike?

Hi Aff,

My name is Amber and I am the Brand Manager for Holidaysafe. Thanks for checking out our site!

Our policies are meant for motorcycle trips and holidays, either in the UK, Europe or World Wide. Our cover will protect the biker and the biking trip - therefore we offer medical emergency and travel cancellation cover, plus cover for kit and apparel etc. Travel insurance is often neglected when planning a motorcycle touring holiday, despite being no different to a holiday where you fly to the destination for example.

As part of our cover, we have included benefits if you cannot use your bike, or if you are forced to leave the bike behind during your holiday. This cover relates to the effect this type of incident would have on the trip, but we don't actually provide the insurance for use of the bike itself, this should all be covered under your international road insurance (which is a legal requirement). So in relation to your example, our cover would not give you the ability to ride a bike you are not already insured on or have a hire agreement for.

I hope that makes sense, but if you have any further questions please let me know.

Thanks,

Amber.

Ah, I see, thanks for clearing that up.

I will most likely be buying some cover later today. For the price it seems stupid not to, also I will now be spending most of my journey on my own and was worrying about being stranded if (when) I crash. Laughing So it will be another thing not to worry about.

What are your policies on breakdown?

When I last went to Europe, I was unable to obtain breakdown cover for my 1997 bike, because it was too old. I had one issue when I was out there, but I was able to fix this myself by the side of the road.

Ironically I could cover my 2004 bike (that I sold) for £40, which was horribly unreliable Laughing

I have no holiday this year, but I'm planning on returning to Europe next year, for hopefully a minimum of 2-4 weeks, and I'm planning on taking my current 1998 bike. It's one of the most reliable bikes I've owned, however I'd be wanting some form of break down cover.

Hi J.M,

Thanks for your comment.

Our cover is specialist motorcycle travel insurance, it is unfortunately not breakdown cover. Therefore, our cover will protect you and your trip against any unforeseen disasters, however anyone riding abroad should have bike insurance and break down cover (if possible) to protect the bike.

However, our policies do include several benefits to help protect your holiday if your bike breaks down, or if you are unable to ride, including;

Collecting your motorcycle after you have returned home - If you have returned home without your motorcycle because repairs had not been completed (etc.) before your planned return to the United Kingdom; you may claim for reasonable travel and accommodation expenses for one person to collect your motorcycle from abroad, plus additional storage charges incurred.

If you cannot use your motorcycle for more than 8 hours - If you wish to continue your holiday but your motorcycle cannot be used for 8 hours or more because of an accident, breakdown, fire or theft you can claim for the additional cost of hiring a motorcycle or the cost of second class rail travel.

If your motorcycle cannot be repaired prior to your return home - If your motorcycle is unusable for 8 hours or more as a result of an accident, breakdown, fire or theft, and you must return directly to the United Kingdom, you can claim for transportation to your home for either Economy or tourist airfares or Second class rail fares Or Hire of a motorcycle equivalent to or smaller than your own.

I hope this answers your question, and if you have any further queries please do not hesitate to contact me here. Alternatively, you can view our Premier Single Trip Motorcycle policy wording here https://www.holidaysafe.co.uk/b2c/documents/RTVHS40001_27_1213.pdf for full details.

Kind regards,

Amber.

Do the backpacker policies cover riding motorcycles above 125cc?

I need year long worldwide cover minus USA, Caribbean.

Any why do you dress up the medical cover £10m really? My searches so far have shown that in the history of the earth there has never been a medical expense claim on a travel insurance policy over £2m

Hi c-m,

Thanks for your comment.

Our Longstay and Backpacker policies do cover motorcycling as standard, as long as you have the correct licence to ride the same bike in the UK. (There is no limit on engine size as long as you have the correct licence). You can see this covered under activity pack one, which is covered as standard.

The minimum medical cover you should have when travelling world wide is £2 million. The minimum we offer is £5 million and the maximum is £10 million, because costs can sky rocket when you included things like medical evacuation, repatriation and expensive medical situations.

We add this extra cover to ensure our customers have enough cover for any situation.

I hope that has answered your questions.

Kind regards,

Amber.

Do you have a policy suitable for a long overland trip?

It seems that with most insurers multi-trip only covers you for 30 days per trip, and backpacker requires that you have a return ticket, on a long overland trip say 6 months you might not yet know the exact return date or which (air)port, city or even country you're returning from, making a return ticket impossible.

Hi C-M,

As I mentioned in my previous comment, we do cover Motorcycling as standard on our backpacker and longstay policies, which can cover trips up to two years in duration. (There is no limit on engine size as long as you have the correct licence).

You do not need a return ticket to purchase a policy under this range, in the event of a claim we would just need you to prove to us that you do intend to return to the UK. E.g. a UK bank account, home rental agreement, return to work date etc. (our claims team are really flexible on the type of evidence you can provide).

However, these policies do not include the more specialist cover levels which are featured in our dedicated motorcycle product.

The Motorcycle policy can cover trips up to a year in duration, so you can easily get cover for a 6 month trip on either our Motorcycle or Longstay policies.

Basically, it depends on the cover you want and your budget.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

Amber.

I took out a policy with you for my Morocco trip, fortunately I never needed to use it.

i've got a trip coming up with my gf.

Now here's an interesting one, if a policy offers say £100 cover for luggage, on an individual policy if that person loses their luggage they could claim up to £100.

What if it's a couple's policy and both lose luggage, if that £100 split between them or is it that they'd both be entitled to a £100?

Same for all the medical and other cover.

Would you cover?

Doesn't look like we're going to questions answered.

Maybe they don't make enough from business use and 6 month worldwide travel insurance for a couple to respond. Shame Sad

Hi all,

I am so sorry for the delay in reply but I was on annual leave and the forum alert was not forwarded to my colleagues.

To answer your question C-M, cover and exceses are always per person, so if you have two people on a policy that would be £200 for luggage. Under the personal possessions section, we would usually expect travellers to make a claim under multiple parts of this section, for example £200 for damaged luggage + £500 for damaged possessions inside etc. The £100 excess would then apply to this entire section/claim. I hope that makes sense, and I would be more than happy to arrange a call back for you to discuss any queries.

To answer your question Marmalade, I don't think our policy would be suitable for you, and instead you should look for a specialist business policy. We could provide cover for medical emergencies etc., but we would not be able to provide any liability cover for your business or deliveries. Therefore I think it would be best if you sought a more specialized policy.

I hope that answers your questions, and once again please accept my sincere apologies for the delay in reply.

If you have any further questions, please feel free to email me via holidaysafe@infinityinsurance.co.uk.

Kind regards,

Amber.

Does the policy end in the event of a claim? Say I lose a passport and claim for that. Is the policy then terminated? Similar to how vehicle insurance policies work?

No, we do not end policies just because you have claimed. For Single Trip policies cover remains in force until the end date of your policy, or the date you return home - which ever is first. For Multi Trip policies your cover remains in force for 12 months, and cover for each trip is the same as Single Trip above.

Kind regards,

Amber.

I'm curious about compensation for missed flights/trains/ferries/connections etc..

In the eyes of the insurer/underwriter what would they consider the minimum time to leave between say connecting trains, ferry to train, flight to train etc..?

Considering around 90% of all scheduled flights are on time, and even higher for cross channel ferries. The trains are another matter though.

---

I should add that due to this thread I took out two policies via Holidaysafe. On for Morocco, and one for a trip around South America. I did have claim medial expenses and the second it was easy enough. The biggest problem was getting through to someone at the time took 15 mins or so, and the cost of making international calls.
