Ellopeeps.

Not had a bike with a fuel gauge for some time, and since I've yet to complete a few tankfuls on the YBR I'm not sure of the safe range, which is annoying as it doesn't have a reserve tap either.

I'll just be topping up every 100 miles for the time being until I have an average MPG, but since Fuelly users have reported between 80 and 180 mpg on these things I don't want to make assumptions.

The owner's manual say that it's got 3.4 litres remaining when the gauge hits red - anyone verify this?

How does your YBR gauge act, does it drop to half, stay there forever, then drop when you have a litre left? Pretty much what my GT550 and XJ900 did.

Never rode mine until it ran out of fuel, but once not managed to get more then about 9l in the tank even after it's been close to nothing left side of red on the dial.
The whole tank is supposed to be 12/13l, I dare say the reserve is after the red.
100mpg sounds about, full tank should get you 200miles without any trouble, after which I'd then start to think about hitting the next petrol station.

I got an average of about 100mpg out of my JS125 (YBR engine) - the fuel guage on that was fairly accurate, I'd like to think a proper YBR would be just as good. Probably.

I'll only need a litre bottle of fuel to get me to a garage, but I don't fancy the idea of draining the tank completely and having whatever muck is in there going through the injector. I'm tempted to fill it, then syphon it out, noting where the gauge sits after each litre.

Also toyed with the idea of making a gauge corrector, taking readings from the sensor at each litre I syphon and run it through a PIC to adjust to linear values.

Fair point. Fit an inline filter? You might get caught out in the future and need to use the crap at the bottom?

Since the tank doesn't have a fuel tap, I'm wondering whether the fuel is fed from the bottom of the tank, since there's no primary/reserve tubes sticking up. I might be getting all the crap anyway Smile

Only had mine a month but found that it's reasonably consistent in going down, as long as the bike is level. Takes a minute to rise back up when the bikes started. I have been filling up just before it hits the red and haven't put much over £5 in at a time, and that's seen me do 100-120 miles each time. Bargain!

Commuting in London, which is about as bad as it gets, I got a genuine 110mpg average from my carbed YBR125.

I wouldn't worry, modern petrol is extremely pure, you don't really get any sediment.

Had mine 2 days, it was pinned in the red but still had some fuel sloshing about, filled it and put around 10l in. That means it had around 3 litres still in there, which according to the manual should have been just going in to the red.

After 75 miles it shows 3/4 full; I'll wait until it gets to halfway and see how much it takes.

I'm not going to get too OCD about it, once i know what MPG I'm getting I'll be relying on the odometer anyway Smile

Well chuffed, gauge was on just under half after 122 miles, filled back up , 4.74 litres = 117mpg Thumbs Up

Gives me a tank range of 334 miles, or 11 days of commuting for under £15 quid.

On smaller bikes, I've found that doing 60mph drops the mpg quite a bit, but round town, at 30 & 40, even with plenty of stop start, it jumps right up.

Ive had anywhere between 100 and 140 on the grom

My commute is 15 miles each way, of which 6 is dual carriageway. My next half tank is going to be tested with not exceeding 50mph on that stretch (so will take 7.2 minutes instead of 6, so no big deal), and I'll see what kind of difference that will make. Either way, it's still better than the 52mpg I'm getting from the Enfield at the moment Smile

Shocked I've only pushed mine to 260 miles, but never to completely empty. I might see how far it will really go one day.

Still, 260 miles for a tenner isn't bad Cool

I get in the high 70s on my EFi Enfield. I'm surprised yours is so much lower

At some point in the future, I want to empty my YBR tank completely for a clean because it has done a lot of miles and I am also curious as to the precise levels so I will do the "add a litre and watch the gauge" test.
