It is a truly terrible thing.

I wonder how long the respectful comments will last in the establishment, and on either side of the referendum debate before political spin is applied?

I give it less than 24 hours.

They're not campaigning tomorrow either, but i do hope they don't turn this into a 'vote for jo' might aswell cancel the whole lot if they try that.

And https://twitter.com/search?q=%23RemainForJo is off.

Remain's most effective campaigning now is just to sing the praises of Saint Jo and everything she stood for, wink wink, while decrying any crass electioneering.

Mumsnet will flip because those poor kids.

There's no counter to this. The narrative is set. Even questioning it supports it, because how very dare you, she's not even cold yet.

Barring some major snackbar within the UK or against En-ger-land fans, I reckon it's over and Brexit is now a quirky footnote in the history of the United States of Europe.

Not convinced. I saw the Sky News interview referred to at the above link and I'm fairly sure that the witness who claimed to hear the 'Britain First' shout is somebody else.

The Spectator has already published a fairly powerful pro-Remain, anti-Farage reflection on the murder of Jo Cox. But they quickly removed it from their site. Perhaps it's thought to be in bad taste or libellous. If anyone cares to read it, someone has preserved it here: https://web.archive.org/web/20160616183957/https://blogs.spectator.co.uk/2016/06/a-day-of-infamy/

Hit about a 7 on the Mental-meter. The utter mong put Britain First first. That needed 30 seconds of utter refutation, fade to respectful black.

I think the narrative is fixed. Those like Undinist who desperately need to believe that it was Britain First = Brexit = #RemainForJo will believe it.

Saying anything except "Carry on Saint Jo's work" will be wow such disrespect, very Nazi. Nobody will grill Eagle, and if they do all she has to say is "But, but, Saint Jo," and blub a bit.

That's all Remain has to say to anything for the next 7 days. Democracy? Saint Jo. Economy? Saint Jo. Immigration? Saint Jo. [wipes eye]

Reality doesn't matter. Any discussion of it will just repeat and re-enforce the phrase Britain First. Which equals Brexit. Which equals #RemainForJo. Or else you're a Nazi.

One random nutter plus a ruthless opportunistic political animal have won it for Remain when the great and the powerful couldn't do it.

I hope that Britain is Greater than that, but I don't believe it.

Not convinced.

It's OK, you've won. You could be gracious in victory.

Give it a rest. Hardly anyone knows or cares who or what Britain First is. Cameron's ineptitude will have a much bigger impact on the vote than today's murder.

Not convinced. It'll be all that the Remain media run with for the next week. Facts won't be allowed to get in the way.

Frankly this may have pushed me to vote leave. Watching Snow and Co eulogizing over the fresh corpse nearly made me throw up. They spent nearly the whole program singing the praises of what came across to me as just another workaholic careerist politician. Among all her activities and achievements not one of them was something to do with her own constituency, apart from she once visited a local hospice charity. Whoopy fookin do.

No real mention is being made of Leave or Remain.
