I've been reading a lot of the trips completed and plan and it seems a lot of people ride down to the chunnel/ferry and it's a long way from t'up North .
Could we do a list of people places of BCF'ers that have a spare room to put people up on there way ?

I have a 4 bed house but live here with my dog ( divorced ) plenty of safe parking couple of pubs near by , I'm in Peterborough on the a1 , it's 150 miles from my gaff to Folkestone .

May be a shitty idea , thoughts anyone ?

When G lived near London everybody used to pile into his house on the way down. But he no longer lives there.

Myself I tend to stop in North Finchley at my Aunt's place if I want to fight into London. Or there is a pub on the outskirts of Ashbourne. I've no idea where it is though I do however know how to get there using landmarks.

nice idea there, i've always just used the travel lodges at services but even these can get up to £50-£60 depending on location.

Suppose same goes for us up north should the need arise, i'm on the outskirts of manchester in the rossendale valley with a spare double room, we also have a village green (haha i know, sounds very quaint doesnt it) so camping on there is fine.

We generally get to Europe via Portsmouth and travel from Aberdeenshire in a day - 600+ miles. Lousy journey - nearly all motorway and dual carriageway but it gets the shit bit out of the way. We get the overnight ferry so we have no time wasted finding accommodation in a nondescript piece of Northern France. Get off the Ferry fresh in St Malo and hit the ground running. Can be in Spain the same day.

Alternative is the Newcastle to Ijmuiden ferry. Same deal, sleep while you travel and get off fresh ready for a long day. I gave up with the short channel crossings a long time ago.

I've thought about the ferry from Portsmouth but again from Peterborough it's a long old slog , may give it a go one day .

If anyone needs a bed or two for an evening on your way down all welcome in .

I live quite near the Poole ferry terminal and have a secure garage for a few bikes if anyone ever needs somewhere to stay before/after a Cherbourg crossing.

Sorry to hear your dog got divorced, it can be ruff-ruff for dogs sometimes!

This will sound twee, but IF anyone seriously wants to tour part of the USA l live 30mls from the center point of Route 66 & we have a spare room.
What town is this? Any pictures of your bike in the area Wink?

Its a very nice offer, but given recent posts/ratings, I expect most people would be dubious about trusting or relying on it without a bit more substance Razz.

"Most people" are sheepy and flock together for safety, due to having no real balls of their own.

Quite agree; just thought i'd ask as if someones planning to go abroad, unfortunately something as meaingless as "red blobs" is enough to probably put many people off.

Seems genuine though and like I said, a very nice offer Thumbs Up.

Don't go getting all excited now.

Think of it as like Corry: you go to make a cup of tea in the break, and by the time you get back, some cretin with a vengeful streak has arrived and you could be back to all pink again.

But hopefully not. Rolling Eyes

There was a few though; unfortunately, new user, red blobs here n' there, sets the alarm bells ringing due to a few repetitive individuals that seem to keep trolling the place.

Only reason I asked Razz.

I think Matt's just commenting on the fact that nobody would trust your offer of accommodation due to the red blobs you (previously had) ( Dance! )

... so although in fact, as you were being a feisty little bugger, they would be perfectly within their rights to be shall we say anxious about stopping at your house - although as we all know now, shrinking violets would probably miss out on a kind and genuine offer of accommodation in a very interesting part of the States. Their loss!

I'm in the ME10 post code.

Not far from Dover/Folkestone terminals, have plenty of deadweight to chain bikes to and always have a couch/floor with bags to crash on.

That and I can spoon by request.

I know. I'm a well reviewed member myself. I have a week in a rooftop Amsterdam apartment booked up
for the wifes imminent birthday. Not one of the cheaper lets but she's a good girl Laughing so we splashed out a little bit. Our
place will be about £100 per night or thereabouts. Its a couple of mins walk from the Vondelpark, couple of Metro stops from
the main hubbub.

I meant the concept wasn't new and that someone had the good sense to offer the same thing for profit. Pound Coin
I live very close to Bath which as I'm sure you know attracts a lot of tourism from around the world. I've
considered setting one of my spare rooms up as an Air bnb let because I think I'd get a good return
from it, but I enjoy my privacy too much so probably won't. Besides I already offer more permanent
accommodation in the area anyway and that keeps the wolf from the door. I'd be happy to do something like this
though if I knew the people personally but random anonymouses is a whole other level. I commend those of you
'bro' enough to be up for this though Thumbs Up
