almost happened to me once but

if a friend was in their car or on their bike and pulled out infront of you causing you to crash... what do?

they can't afford to pay fully to fix bike..

do you go through insurance and risk the friendship?

Hypothetically he killed me so no, we wouldn't need to go through the insurance and he tells people at my funeral what a great friend I was and how sorry he is.

It's not so hypothetical it happened on BCF once and twice in my life.

Way way back in 2006 or 2007 two BCFers were involved in a crash.

One of them braked hard (I forget why) and the other one went into the back of the other.

They initially were civil and wanted to fix each other's bikes with cash. Except the one at the back had considerably more damage due to USD forks damaging the headstock.

The one at the back then expressed he wanted to claim on the other guy's insurance. It caused their friendship which I guess wasn't so tight after all to fall apart. They never spoke to each other again. Both stayed on BCF for a while before vanishing.

It happened in the old Plymouth clan too D's NC30 and J's Honda something or other. They were civil but then it went through insurance and tore their friendship apart. IIRC one of them was killed a few months later in a bike crash and the other person regretted falling apart with them.

The way I see it, if the friend was at fault he should fix my Bike without complaint.

I'd take cash for the damage or claim on his policy, he is my friend why would he want to see me of pocket because of his error? and if he does feel his premiums are more important than my restitution then Fuck him he's not a good enough friend to lose a bike over.

Hypothetical situation:

You're driving your car and you pull out in front of your friend and cause him to crash. You have insurance but can't afford to fix their bike.

Do you:

Man up and hand over your insurance details so your mate's bike gets fixed

or

Risk your friendship by trying to deny responsibility to save your premiums.

Inb4 Jeremy Kyle situation....

Fuck it, don't pussy about if a mate causes a crash or damages your bike he needs to pay to fix it to how it was before. If he isn't able to afford it then you use insurance which is what it's for. If claiming on your mates insurance ruins the friendship, then he or she ain't worth having as a mate.

Ask yourself this, if a mate damages your bike that you need to get to and keep your job, is he ok to say sorry mate you'll have to wait 6months to get your bike fixed and lose your job, cos I'm broke?

If you agree that your mate is going to pay to fix your bike, he should give you his bike to use in the meantime until yours is fixed
If not fuck him!

If I was riding... let say with Iain.

If I braked hard for a hazard and Iain piled in to the back of me, I'd want his insurance.

If I hit him from behind (fnar) I'd give him my insurance, no issues.

I don't see the point in squabbling, a friend isn't going to fuck you over. If they are, then they aren't exactly a friend Laughing

It didn't involve psychohippy at all and it didn't happen the way you suggest.

If they have money to pay then avoid insurance, if the bike was proper f**ked (frame damage etc.) then I'd go through insurance, otherwise I'd try to fix it myself.

Slightly different but a guy on the MT forum let someone have a go on his MT-01 in a car park, and he crashed into a island thingy (basically the only thing he could hit). Bike was a write-off but the guy paid up in full, which I was impressed with tbh.

I recall someone on here going for a ride with a CBF125 noob (he was a vlogger as well iirc) who crashed into the back of him. There was also what happened on the eurojolly Silence

Well something happened. I'll edit out the names if you edit your quoting if you feel the need.

I've had hundreds of thousands from a friends insurance and I don't think it caused any problems.

On the plus side, the car being completely written off got me to hook for any liability / problems / responsibilities / guilt relating to the orange or apple juice that I'd split quite a lot of in the car about a week before the crash. Dance!

In the OPs case, if they can't afford to fix your bike at the moment then they could lend you their car until they do have the necessary funds for fixing your bike.
