Hi all,

Shortly finishing work and have a couple of weeks off, so planning a blast down to France in the dirty diesel for a week before I sell it! Will be beginning of August.

Wondered if you lot have any recommendations where to go?

Ideally want to hire a villa type thing with a pool.

Want sunny weather (granted this is luck, further south = hotter, right?) Places to go see e.g. Forests / Seaside / Chateau's /

Basically anywhere in this highlighted area doesn't seem bad to get to, anyone been / can recommend somewhere ?

Cheers. Tom Thumbs Up

Must admit that is a bit of a worry, though it has been pretty nice so far this month here in South East UK.. even if its like 21-25 sunny I'll be happy!

What about Le-Mans area? I'll avoid North North France as much as possible haha.

I think it's the element of not having done it before, and being able to explore as we please, different in other words. I'm sure theres some lovely roads out there too, but yes, majority probably quite boring. I enjoy driving anyhow lol.

I would be going in a Mk1 MX5 which would make it far more interesting but it turns out I can't find one worth buying.. Been looking for over 4 months now. Thumbs Down

Air B and B a place near Monaco/Cannes up in the mountains. Last time I did this it cost me 60 quid a night for a 3 bedroom place
that would have slept up to 6. AWESOME mountain roads all around, Cannes and Monaco 40 mins away for shopping
and dining and spotting seriously hot french totty. Big fat leggings wearing Greggs girls are far fewer and farther between in France
than they are over here. Even in a country world famous for fine Patisserie. It's almost like French women want to be seen as feminine and attractive.
So they make some significant effort to appear that way. Part of that is dressing in clothes that not only suit them, but also that fit.
And the other is making some ongoing effort to remain person shaped, even if that is by smoking 40 Gitanes a day.
How very continental....

To drive to that very western corner in your highlighted area from Calais is probably 6 or 7 hours. If you're ok driving that far you may as well head further south, you'd probably make it down to a little north of the Alps with a full days driving.

True, but considering you can also get ferries to Le Havre, Cherbourg, Roscoff & St Malo maybe not so much.

Loire valley is a nice part of the world. If you're into it the general normandy landings type of tour is very interesting, albeit not especially jolly holidays.

Just to get this clear in my head, You're planning to go to France during the one month most of france closes down and goes on holiday itself. Is that right?

I should add I flew into Cannes, then hired a car because it worked out cheaper that way. Got a brand new Clio Estate. Thumbs Up

I can highly recommend Jura and the Vosges, although they are a bit out of your ideal area.

(much more easterly, more kind of butted up against Switzerland and Germany)

The good thing about both those areas (apart from the scenery) is that there's hardly any English people. So you really have to work your Franglais.

I'd head the opposite direction to be honest. There are some very nice mountains in the North of Luxembourg - Etch-sur-sure is where I went, but that general area is good.

Yup I agree and many many years ago ( over 20) I lived there and went to school there. Bretagne is the name of the area whereas the UK is known as the big Bretagne. People from Brittany have a love of Cornwall Wales Scotland and Ireland.

Breise bruic. I'm sure that's spelt wrong.

I no longer know any French or bretagne language.
