Hi all,

Lokking for any suggestions advice please!
I am doing 4 days in Eurpoe in Septmeber with 4 friends.
Hotels are booked, so we now just need some routes between places, and I'm hoping there will be loads of helpful suggestions here!

We arrive at the Hook of Holland at 8am on the Thursday.
We are then spending Thursday night in Amsterdam, so Thursday needs a route that ends there.

Friday night we are staying in Aachen, so Fridays route needs to go from Amsterdam to Aachen.

Saturday night we are staying in Valenciennes so route needs to go from Aachen to Valenciennes.

Sunday we are getting the tunnel from Calais at 17:20 hrs, so sundays route is Valenciennes to Calais in time for the 17:20 tunnel.

Any suggestions on either specific roads, or suggestions for an entire route for any of the days?

We are flexible but at a guess would be looking at maybe looking at 6-7 hours total each day max inc stops for brews and lunch although this is flexible.

My hope was to fuzz to the Nürburgring while in Aachen, but sadly its closed while we are there

Thanks in advanced

Andy

Holland is one of the most least exciting places to be riding a bike unless you are up north past Amsterdam or riding down the East missing motorways. You may as well ride straight up to the Dam and enjoy a few hours more there. Head south down the east side as it looks far nicer with nicer roads. Cant give you dedicated routs as when i go i have a destination deadline most times but have found the East less industrial looking.

When crossing Belgium watch the fuel you have a severe lack of service stations on motorways.

Yup, if you wanted great routes you picked the wrong country. The roads in Holland are good, and the drivers are sensible and courteous, but it's not exciting. Even if you get off the motorways you will find the roads are small, heavily restricted and relatively straight. I've found some nice bits before up around Groningen and heading out to the Northern coast. Quite a few national Parks up that way too.

Sorry, but got to agree with previous replies. Roads in Holland are so boring in my fairly limited experience. Go to Amsterdam by the quickest route and enjoy the city Wink

Make up the route between coffee shops as you go. Thumbs Up

Print out a copy to take with you and mark where you hotel is for bonus points.

Other than that: cancel the ferry booking, cancel the hotel bookings in Aachen and Valenciennes, book an EasyJet flight and book a couple of extra nights at the hotel in Amsterdam.

Have fun and watch out for cyclists. Laughing

Clearly shows a whole region you should avoid...

You're going to really struggle to find decent roads in Holland. I've ridden cross country a few times and it's nearly all long straigh roads Sad Better than the motorway though.

If you've an interest in WW2, the museums at Arnhem and Overloon are enroute from Amsterdam to Aachen. I personally would head to Cochem on the Mosel rather than Aachen

This would then set you up for an interesting ride across northern Luxembourg and southern Belgium to Valenciennes via Clervaux and Bastogne (more WW2 stuff) Thumbs Up

Funny you mention Bastogne as i am spending a night there next month and going down the Moselle. Did cochem the past two years so looking for a change and while hunting campsites in the area i came across a bikers hotel what is handy if anyone is heading down that way
