At the end of the day house prices are based on supply and demand. All the time we have no control over the numbers of EU citizens living here, not only uncounted officially as immigrants, not even part of the population, we have no real control over housing demand and therefore pricing.
The current plan of build, build, build, is destroying towns such as the one I live in. I've had enough now. It's time the government were at least honest about the numbers living here and coming here uncounted. ____________________ TZR250 2MA road, TZR250 1KT road, TZR250 2MA race, TDR250, YZF-750R Boost colours.

Are all these expensive houses being bought by all these migrants who are on the minimum wage jobs where an English person couldn't get a mortgage, because they're not earning enough? ____________________ Mpd72: I can categorically say i’m Brighter than that, no matter how I come across on here.

Oh ffs. A large proportion of them are buy to lets, many bought the same arsehole who now owns almost half of the rented properties in the town.
Many other buyers are people moving out of Londonistan, as the poor, impoverished immigrants take over entire neighbourhoods in the most expensive place to live in the UK, much of which is social housing.
On some new build estates the level of social housing the developers must produce can be up to 30%. Where do you think all these new "free house please" benefits recipients are coming from if our population really isn't growing that fast? It's no co-incidence that the town centre is now full of immigrants for whom English is a second or non existent language, during working hours. It certainly wasn't like this 5 years ago, so it;s pretty easy to work out who all these new houses are for.
Why the feck are we housing asylum seekers and other immigrants in social housing in the most expensive parts of the country, that most working UK families cant afford to live in?
Working 16 hours in a supermarket then receiving up to £10K gratis from the tax payer, is not contributing to the country.
I'm not talking about stopping immigration, just having a say in who and how many we let in, because as it stands, we have no say what so ever on the numbers coming here from Europe, nor can we stop them getting the same access to the benefits system as our own feckless.
It's not working and the government are too afraid to reveal the real figures. Ask yourself why, in a time of record employment and tax take, that the standard of living and public services are falling. There's only one explanation and that's because the number of people draining the state funds is growing faster than those paying into it. ____________________ TZR250 2MA road, TZR250 1KT road, TZR250 2MA race, TDR250, YZF-750R Boost colours.

Oh, still recycling that same old bullshit £10k figure that you can't provide a genuine number of how many people actually receive? ____________________ Mpd72: I can categorically say i’m Brighter than that, no matter how I come across on here.

Come on Vallage, even you're not that daft. So you're saying not one single EU migrant is claiming more in benefits than they contribute in tax?
You're biased badinfo-graphic is aimed at the hard of thinking. It includes the biggest contributions such as tax and NI on one side, but only working tax credits and family allowance on the other. What about the big social costs like social housing, education, healthcare and income support?

Whatever your social leanings the demand for housing, whether rented or bought, is pushed up by the amount of people coming into the country.
What is net migration? 250000 a year from what I remember. So we would need an extra 250000 homes a year being built just to keep up and not including home grown demand. 2017 saw something like 200000 built although figures vary depending whose you read.
The only way rent and house prices will fall is if demand falls. That isn't going to happen unless immigration falls.
|
Seriously? Last time I have checked in a free market society we don't eliminate people to regulate the demand like China.
I thought free market natural supply increase is the solution.
UK has a lot of problems and none is due to EU migrants. FYI Germany with more migrants and decent house prices.
The UK housing market is not free. It's artificial monopoly created by the land owners. And houses are used as investment tool to speculate and invest money NOT for actual housing.
Means it is economically viable to buy a house and leave it empty. The price rise is bigger then the bank interest rates or even other invetsments. Don't get me even started on money laundering and the fact UK is a magnet for Russian, Chinese, Middle East and criminals from all over the world that are investing stolen money in properties here.
There is not by accident UK decides to leave exactly when EU decided to make stronger laws about tax avoidance and criminal money laundering.
Quote: |
Analysis of Government figures shows that there are more than one million additional homes above those required for households in the UK. This "housing surplus" has nearly doubled from 800,000 spare homes in 1996 to 1.4million homes at any one time in 2014 |
https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2017/02/03/number-empty-homes-hits-highest-rate-20-years-calling-question/
Land monopoly and obscure and unfair 17th century planning permissions create the artificial properties market monopoly and house shortages. Not related to immigrants whatsoever.
FYI UK is the ONLY countty in the world where there is a lease hold for private houses.
There is a very simple way to break the monopoly and make the market free and fair again. Make property reform and tax all land and house owners based on size and house value.
That will make empty land, empty houses and speculative investements in houses economically unsustainable.
UK is the only country in Europe that doesn't tax property owners.
The current Land Registry for England and Wales holds less than 65% of all land and properties, 35% is unregistered and nobody knows who own it, and that in 21st century in the age of
computers. ____________________ Adrian Monk: Unless I'm wrong, which, you know, I'm not...

In 2016, some completely unbiased European think tank that specialises in economics said:
"Statistics referenced by the House of Commons suggest that 0.26 percent of total UK child benefit claims are paid to EU migrants whose children live in another EU member state. 0.09 percent of all child tax credit claims are made by families with children residing in another EU member state."
