The spark plug is new. I checked it and it's sooty black - classic "too rich" looking spark plug. The air-screw was almost closed; the manual says 1 3/4 open (almost two full turns) so I've set it to that.
When I set the air screw though, I first did it with the air-filter removed and the revs went far too high. I don't know if that's normal but with the filter off the moped was ready to pull itself off it's centre-stand. With the filter back in place and the air-screw at 1 3/4, I've guesstimated the idle speed and now I just need to take it for a run to see what happens.
An old problem has cropped up again; the throttle cable is sticky; I don't know if the carb cable is okay (it's a splitter cable - throttle controls both) but the throttle cable is definitely sticky. If I have to buy a new one (and the one on there IS a new one) I'll have to figure out what the right cable to use is because it's not a normal standard FZ50 cable; the throttle is off of a different bike and I know not what model.
But for now, I just need to give it a ride and see if it works or not.
