Hi all

I am currently looking into getting my licence. I was planning on getting my CBT at 16 but by dad wouldn't let me. I'm now 19 and and adult so I have decided it is something I would like to do.

I was just wondering how I should go about it?

Should I get my CBT and straight onto my A2 or should I ride on my CBT for a bit?

What would you all recommend?

Also what would be a good bike to pick up for a new rider? I have budget of about 1200-1500 for the bike alone (pretty small I know but I also have a car to pay for)

Thanks all Smile

If you don't fancy waiting another 5 years to do full A, I'd just get on with it and do A2 ASAP to get your 2 year countdown running.

FZS600 is in budget, just barely restrictable (or "restrictable") for A2, and can be "derestricted" to pass your A tests in 2 years. I'd consider that as a default choice and look for specific reasons to get anything else.

Reasons might be: that you can pick up a Bandit 600 for a little less; that an SV650S might deliver its torque a little better after restriction; that you want an unrestricted A2 native bike (good luck with finding one).

After you've done your training and tests on an A2 bike, you'll be in a far better position to know what you want.

CBT first though, you may find that it's not really for you.

If you do decide to ride around on a 125 for a bit, I'd suggest two things:

Try and ensure that your policy can be transferred to a larger bike. That's down to the underwriter. The broker may lie about it.

Do not ride anything larger until you're ready to do your A2 training. It'll ruin the 125 for you.

Another + for what Roger said. FZS600 is a great bike, but then I'm biased.

As a spirit not long past this circumstance, I offer you this:

Nothing at all.

Except-

For me, I was 98.734% sure I was going to go straight onto A2 (being 19, blah blah blah) but after doing my CBT's (dos), I really wasn't what I'd consider 'ready' at all... and my instructor barely handed the certificate over even after the 2nd time.

That and the insurance prices. The absolute cheapest I found for a Fazer was £1130, whereas I managed £355 with a bit of phone haggling deployed by poppa Cronik for the CBF125.

A figure not to be glanced over.

In a year that Fazer quote more than halves.

For now, I am riding (yes, I am RIDING) and enjoying (well, as much as I can muster- I hate life).

You know...

Just complete your CBT and you need not wonder where the allure shines...

Welcome aboard the board.
