So my new super computer is great for playing games and I run my old computer along side to to surf the web.

Started to surf on the new computer and find it really slow loading web pages. Once it's found the page it loads really quickly but it can be sitting there for ages connecting in the 1st place.

Yes I know how crap windows is and the world would be a better place without it but that's what I've got.

It was a fresh install so no upgrading and I run firefox not the Edge thing that's already in it.

So far I've found on the web that upping the power output and turning off some sort of permission to give windows the ability to do something weird like sending updates via your computer.

It does seem quicker but not nearly as quick as my old one sat next to it. They are both plugged in to the same router.

Any suggestions (other than burn it and install Linux) to get it running faster?

There must be some sort of conflict going on inside its head?

Do you run multiple hard drives? I've noticed that when I turn on the ECO mode and the unused HDDs turn off, sometimes when I click at something I have to wait for the unused HDDs to start spinning again. Eventhough I run a SSD for the system and the browser is on the exact same SSD.

Yes I use the SSD for all the running and a hard drive for storing things. I've changed my power setting to full power all the time as suggested on the net but not a great deal of difference.

It's weird. I can open a tab and it will sit there trying to connect to google for instance but if I open an extra tab it will be there instantaneously while the 1st is still trying to connect.

Any chance there's something running in the background? Such as mining bitcoins or any other parasites slowing down your machine? Thinking

Ctrl + shift + Esc and check for anything you do not know, while the web browser is running. Also, is the system up to date?

Tried using Google's DNS servers on 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 ?

Everything is slow with Windows 10, it's gotta be the worst Windows ever. I'm thinking about installing Windows 8 instead. My whole laptop is slow with it, compared to my old laptop with a lower spec.

I'm still perfectly happy on 7, with a Windows 2000 look and feel (Control Panel Arrow System Arrow Advanced Arrow Performance Arrow Settings Arrow Adjust for best performance)

It's not broke - why try and fix it?

AVG is running but that's it. I run AVG on my old computer as well.

I could try googles servers but don't have issues with Vista.

Don't think so, it's the free version and just has "link scanner" to stop you visiting harmful links. I've tried it turned off but still the same.

OK i'm getting well pissed off with this. I've uninstalled the few things that were on it. Spybot, malwarebytes and AVG. Googled around, clicked this, checked that, updated drivers but there aren't many posts that are after 2015 which suggests the bugs weren't ironed out with upgrades. Recommendations on a forum to try for more answers please,

Cheers FS.

Is 'Automatically Detect Settings' ticked under settings? If so, turn it off.

Done that with the settings, here's the worst bit. I gave up, saved all my pics on a HD and did a total system restore. Everything wiped. Fresh install with no 3rd part crap on and it's the bloody same. Something is wrong somewhere. Crying or Very sad

It's probably the All Seeing Eye using 100% CPU tracking your gaze on the page. Don't worry, the LED's not on, it's probably not true, is it?

In seriousness, browsing is just getting slower and slower. Firefox only works well on my modern machines, if I'm ever on the netbook or similar I end up using lightweight browsers, and that's on lightweight linux distros.

Basically any modern news website destroys my old machines. Total joke. What was wrong with text?

Do you run Rapport? some banks tell you to download it? Are you sure you only have one AV installed? Are your proxy settings off (not detect)?

I'll have to google how to do that. Not sure safe mode is easy to get to in WIN10 for some reason.

Don't bother with Win10, its garbage, that's why they were giving it away for free.
