Not new to the forum, but not old really either. More like a 'come-backer' and the same to riding the bike too really.

I really wanted to get into biking, and with the help of a guy at work I bought a second hand SR125 which I had for around a year before I decided to buy a new YBR125 in 2008, which I’ve still got.

I took a test on the very last day of the old style tests (before the new style Mod 1 & 2 came in) but screwed it up, and when I took the MOD 1, could only managed 28 then 30 through the speed reader and I was failed, had another test, but nerves got the better of me and I clipped a cone.

Decided to forget about tests and just use the bike on L plates to get to work & back and over the next couple of years that became less and less to non-existent. Did (yet another) CBT in July 2015 and never rode afterwards. In July this year when the bike needed MOTing I thought it’s now or never, use the bloody thing, pass your test or sell it.

I’d only really ever ridden with the guy from work who had basically always looked out for me, meaning I had little solo riding experience and not as much confidence as I should have had.

So for the past fortnight I’m been going it alone to work & back (only about 30 miles a day) and I’ve loved it. Last week I booked some 1-2-1 training with Camrider in Harlow (they’re fantastic and would really recommend them). After four hours I really felt more confident, I was shown so much with regards to the Mod 1 test. We went out on a ride and the instructor hardly spoke to me (just left/right stuff) and when we got back he said he wouldn’t have any concerns letting me go out on a 600cc if I wanted to do the DAS. I was able to try their specially lowered bike, a XJ6, who I was told was called Susan (I knew a Susan once and she was an evil bitch), and although the height was perfect for me, the bike did feel wide (YBR’s are like push bikes in comparison). But it’s made me feel like I want to ride even more.

I took my theory test and passed, so just have to get on with things now!!

Congrats, well done and don't give up.
Experience gained on the smaller bikes has given you the advantage.
