Windows 10’s Anniversary Update brings a “Bash on Ubuntu on Windows” environment to Windows 10. But don’t be deceived: This is more than just a Bash shell. It’s a full compatibility layer for running Linux applications on Windows.

Interesting, I wonder why they've added that feature. Confused VirtualBox is a much better way to run Linux on a Windows box.

But then you get to wondering why you're running Windows at all.

Anyway, gentle chortle from those of us who recall/had to use Interix/SFU/SUA. They'll get bored and drop support for it soon enough.

For the few things I actually want to use on Windows I have a VM set up (with VGA passthrough for gaming). If you have the right hardware it works quite well. You can set up network shares from the host or just pass through a USB stick etc.

Bit of a faff to set up initially but it's been going strong for me for over a year now. With two cheap-ish GPU's you can run Linux and Windows both hardware accelerated on two monitors.
