Hi peeps.

Drawing a blank on my searches, I've got a user on our system that has a subfolder in their Inbox that seems to have a link back to itself, so when you expand it it just shows its parent, open that and the subfolder is shown again, like this :-

Code:
Folder A
   Folder B
      Folder A
         Folder B
            Folder A
               Folder B
                  Folder A
                     Folder B
                        Ad infinitum...

It's looking like I'm going to have to rebuild the mailbox, but before I do, has anyone seen this before, and know of a fix? It's Exchange Server 2010 running on Server 2008r2.

is it in the PST or is it in the live mailbox?

ScanPST might fix it if it's just the PST that has issues.

Quick google brings back this.

This looks more accurate.

It's in the live mailbox, and my google searches have come up with the same thing - I can rebuild it, just wanted to throw it out to the BCF collective in case there's a nugget I've missed Smile

Mailbox is still usable, but it's stopping our Enterprise Vault from archiving mail. I've got two mailboxes in this state.

Tried moving the mailbox to another DB which I've found sometimes cures weird issues, but the move fails since it is trying to get to the end of the folder structure. Tried the New-MailboxRepairRequest cmdlet, reports no issues. OWA hangs when trying to open the folder. Trying to move or delete the folder fails.

Might be quicker taking a hammer to the back of the user's heads. They're only directors Smile

There are some server based scan and repair mailbox store tools but i've only ever used those as a last last LAST minute resort .... the cost if they ( and they sometimes do ) fuck up is not worth the risk.

Maybe that's more what you need.

I dislike Exchange when it comes to stuff like this, are you sure it's not some weird folder permission on the users tab somewhere?

What if you go in via OWA - can you delete it that way whilst they have Outlook closed?

The problem has been passed back to the Service Desk to try to pin the users down for a rebuild.

I believe I did this. Do the directions use tablets or laptops? I've once of twice copied by dragging and dropping my inbox into my archive inbox because I've been using a trackpad on the laptop,

Simply un-dragging and dropping it back to where it should be solved my problem.
