So, I buys a new laptop recently. Must have Windows 10 they say... ok.

Now, the thing is ok, except for the wifi.

Every few weeks, it starts acting like there is no wifi whilst still being connected. "Pulsing".

Then I fiddle with the wifi on and off button to keep it going...

And then it decides I have turned off the wifi, and genuinely don't want to turn it back on again.

Eventually, with enough fiddlign and repeated "find the problem" it has miraculously come back.

This time, it doesn't seem to want to. Search for problem just says "You've turned Wifi off already".

Is this a common bug, and how do you fix it?

Yes it's a pain, I have taken to making a shortcut of the wireless network connection on my desktop that I can enable/disable quickly, which sorts it each time.

I've looked around for a fix, but nothing seems to work.

Sounds vaguely similar to problems Win 10 gives me with my keyboard and mouse (and other USB devices, disabling them at random).

It tries to save power by turning components off (sometimes even while in use). I've played with the power management settings (disabling all power saving), and been through both the device manager and registry editor to disable power saving on everything individually, yet it still does it in my case (though I gather others have had success).

First thing I'd look at is the power saving options, then disable power saving on your adapter through the device manager.

Buy a dongle. Can probably get a faster dongle than your onboard wifi anyway.

Since when has a USB port been faster than a mini pci-e slot?

I'm not sure the pci-e or the usb is the bottleneck when dealing with wifi.

One of these beautiful pikey bastards

Lenovo Ideapad 100S

Interesting that it could be the power saving options, as it is always when it is on battery that it starts being a cunt Thinking

It may be cheaper than a cheap thing, but it would be great if Win 10 would stop mothering me into uselessness. Skynet is coming.

The most annoying thing is that my computer is in Chinese... not a problem for small problems or general day to day... but fiddly "what the fuck were microsoft thinking" type of problems are soul destroying. Especially on a completely new system... I could get shit done on Win 7 at least. Midgeted because not trying to humble brag, but it would be annoying enough without trying to decipher the squiggles of lies.

We got the cunt working.

It was disabled in the wifi connection higher settings, flicking it on got it started.

Shortcut on desktop.

Next step is to make the smudge font large enough to read. Like the shiny af screen isn't enough pain.

Laughing

Well, that was short lived.

Fuck you, you odious goit.

How is it possible to have knackered drivers on a newly purchased computer? It wasn't an upgrade.

Anyway, I guess it's back to the shop I go.

Sniff.

Yeah because Macs never break down or have issues...

This has to be one of the idiotic posts I've ever read. No offence like.

Well I've worked with computers (both Windows and Macs) long enough to be sick of Windows and incompatible / spurious hardware issues. Maybe its the change to Macs for my personal computer that 'converted' me. However Wifi is a basic essential and should work 100%. Apple controlling both hardware and software means i believe its more reliable than Windows. Make of that what you will.

Where as you'd spend a long long time counting all the PC/Windows issues...

Both have their pros & cons, but certainly in terms of stability, as Duffman says, Apple controlling the hardware & software does help with incompatibility issues

The point is, telling someone that has a wifi issue, to buy an overly priced mac as a fix is ridiculous.
