If you're not aware, each week there is a Radio 4 programme called 'Desert Island Disks' where a celebrity is called a castaway and is asked to choose eight recordings (usually, but not always, music), a book and one luxury, which must be inanimate and of no use in escaping the island or allowing communication from outside.

This is the theme for my wife's birthday. Currently compiling mine and will add to the thread...

What would yours be?

Discs...

Ocean Colour Scene - Marchin' Already
Rolling Stones - Let it Bleed
Red Hot Chili Peppers - Californication
Journey - Greatest Hits

(couldn't be bothered picking 8 tracks, so went with 4 albums instead... Pick any two songs from each of those albums and you're guaranteed a winner)

Book...

Jerome K Jerome - 3 Men in a Boat

Luxury...

My fishing gear. I could happily live out my days casting a line. Added bonus is that you can catch your dinner too.

Tool - Opiate
Tool - 10000 Days
Alice in Chains - Dirt
Alice in Chains - Facelift
Queens of the Stoneage - S/T
Clutch - Blast Tyrant
Mad Season - Above
Stone Temple Pilots - No. 4

Book - Encyclopedia Britannica

Luxury - Comfortable bed

*Wait is 8 recordings 8 albums or 8 songs? If it is 8 songs, I think I would prefer not to go to this island.

That's cheating. Tool albums are about a week long.

Albums in no particular order

Freewheelin - Bob Dylan
Appetite for destruction - Guns N Roses
Hysteria - Def Leopard
The Last men on earth - Five horse Johnson
Straight Shooter - Bad Company
Sloe Gin - Joe Bonomassa
Thickfreakness - Black keys
Morrison Hotel - doors

The only book I bothered reading more than once is Donnie Brasco so I guess I'd take that.

Luxury would be my guitar or beer.

I swear the majority of the celebs on that show just make pretentious playlists up in an effort to sound interesting.

Surely the luxury item should be a solar powered CD player (assuming they exist... if not patent pending), otherwise you're going to be reading a lot of album art. I'd want a book on bushcraft, by Ray Mears or whoever is the go to survivalist now.

8 songs (doing this properly):
New Order - Blue Monday
Ozzy Osbourne - Crazy Train
Nina Simone - Sinnerman
Dr Dre - Still D.R.E.
Lynyrd Skynyrd - Freebird
Ray Charles - Hit The Road Jack
Ocean Colour Scene - Hundred Mile High City
Guns N' Roses - Sweet Child O' Mine

No room for any Queen, Iron Maiden, or MJ... this is actually difficult when you do it properly Folded arms Smile

Yeah it's supposed to be individual songs, not albums. The game assumes access to this music whenever you want, so solar power CD player is redundant.

Ah ok, my luxury item would be a personal locator beacon, whether or not I'd use it is another matter entirely Thinking

Recordings:
No music, I'll enjoy the silence.
7 David attenborough documentaries and the original total recall.

Book:
Tiger Tiger/A dummies guide to escaping a desert island.

Luxury:
Barley seeds (inanimate enough for you?). A man must have ale. Yeast occurs naturally and the lack of hops will inspire a variety of jungle brews.
