I'm considering making a tail piece because I can't seem to find the one I'm after. I want to make one similar to the one below that I have circled on the BMWR100GS. I was just wondering what is the best material to make a custom tail piece out of. It's a rather simple design but I want it to be robust.

Cheers fora any replies.

That bike doesn't have a tailpiece, it's got a rack and a mudguard.

Next.

Isn't that thing in the red circle in the supplied photography a pannier?

Could try the good ol' ammo can route. Nazi ammo cans if you're feeling extra cheeky.

I can take that one step further, even for you Sammy, and tell you it's an incredibly common, after-Market Acerbis/UFO Enduro mudguard.. tail-lamp included, available from most off-road emporium's for about £40 or so.
