Hi all,

Does anyone know the requirement for you to be charged at the roadside?

Do you need to have a physical ticket issued for a fixed penalty or a court appearance?

You're not going to be charged at the roadside.

You'll be given a verbal notice of intended prosecution.

As Ariel says, what have you done or think you might have done?

I got some sort of 'receipt' Notice of Intending to Prosecute or somesuch, I can't remember now what it was called, and also ssued with a fine a few years ago

at least I think, bit muddled now

I think I got fined for some misdemeanour, but the bit of paper was like an official bookmark that they might try and do me for more later?

Anyway, just paid the fine and no points in the end.

They can give you an NIP bit of paper if they want to but there's no requirement for that to be done as well as giving you a verbal NIP.

Technically fines can only be issued by a court, what you did was pay a bribe out of court settlement as an alternative to going to court. Wink

As has been said, they give you an NIP telling you they intend to prosecute you, and then you'll hear from the court.

Usually goes along the lines of 'I am reporting you for the offence of .......'
