I found an X-Files Trivia game in a Charity shop for next to nothing, I didn't realise till I got home it is a VHS game.

Any easy way to copy it to a modern format without spending money?

My missus parents have a VHS & DVD combo, and I tried to copy it but the protection blocked it.

Google the name and model of your VHS player with the word 'macrovision'.

Didn't protected videos have a tab taken out of a corner (like ye olde musical cassette tapes)?
Wasn't a workaround to just cover the gap with some tape?
No idea if that would work for a game though.
Could be totally confused and talking out me arse though.

Wasn't that for stopping the tape being recorded over?

I have a USB Video capture card, which I have hooked up to an old Windows XP machine at work.

I bought it years ago to transfer a safety video on to a laptop.

Drunkenly I told the MD at a christmas party that I had this setup and ended up encoding about 10 hours of his home video on to USB.

Never tried it on copy protected material though.

(Though I do remember in the 90s, I had a some sort of mixer ( 3 BNC in and 3 out and whenever I wanted to pirate a video I simply had to increase the signal strength and it worked).
