Charging a phone from a car battery

I can charge my phone etc from the fag lighter of the car with an adaptor but when I set up a spare battery with a ciggy lighter socket on a pair of crock clips it will not charge, I do have a box that will plug in with 3 fag lighter sockets and a USB and I can charge from the USB. Battery is good and has a full charge, what am I doing stupid?

Does the charger still work after being plugged directly to the battery? You might as well get an inverter.

Is the spare battery flat ?

The Battery is new and was fully charged, inverter is the way to go I think.

Do you get 12V on the other end? check that. the wires maybe broken.
