I'm interested to know why our latest troll has been dealt with by moving his/it's thread to F&FW's?

The previous fuknugget was left to his own devices and eventually got karma'd out of existance.
So why has the latest potato, architect of this thread, :-

https://www.bikechatforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=315337

not been afforded the same chance of oblivion?

It took less than 7 posts and a few name changes for it to show it's true colours, what's the point of letting the thread and the OP hang around, when a, mass, karma ban would seem to have been in the offing?

While I'm on the subject, the said, previous fuknugget, enemied me, after claiming I'd done something to his IP adress, I didn't, I wouldn't know how.

Correct me if I'm wrong but, AIUI, being set to enemy by the troll does my karma no good at all.
All the negative karma he dished out has been revoked, yet I have to live with the bad karma from being enemied, is this the case, if so why so?

My understanding is that if someone has you enemied any negative karma is 'softened' and any positive is 'enhanced' - ie If you're set to enemy and get -ve karma, it has less of an effect than normal. Also if you are 'friended' and they give you -ve karma it's worse.

That's my understanding... I could be as wrong as you on that though Wink

The thing is, after he accused me of meddling with his internet settings, he enemied me straight away, so he couldn't see any of my posts, which I assume is why he didn't give me any karma at all, or maybe he couldn't lose face!
I however was still able to give him plenty of karma, all bad, such a shame! Mr. Green

As I said before, I was lead to believe that, merely, being set to enemy meant that my karma took a huge hit!

Some people have such great lives that trivial things bother them to the point that they feel they must share them.

I couldn't personally give a shit about Karma or trolls. Neither have any real effect on my life, so they can do as they choose. If Karma affected my credit score, I'd be all over it. I'm not sure a Troll could make me want to do anything but laugh and point. Unless of course they managed to get into your actual day in real life, they are just bits of text on a page, on a server, somewhere in the interwebs.

I wish my life was great.

It's not that big a deal really, Unless you are in deep red, there's little to worry about and if that's the case, you're being a dick and deserve it.

It's not like I go away from here and ever give it a second thought.

Or the BCF could have a small questionnaire before you are allowed to join. Nothing major really, it could be something like: Q, Where do you start a thread about ''Technical discussions and mechanical advice.''? And 3 options. a) Biking News & Rumours; b) Random Banter; c) The Workshop.

I bet about 30% of newcomers would either learn how the forum works or give up and never get pass the question/s. Thinking

On the understanding I'm not leaving 100% shitpost threads in the workshop section, where should I have put it? By the time it had been edited, there was absoutely no meaning to the thread. I don't think there was much more to be said in it either.

I could have deleted it altogether but then everyone complains about censorship.

To the best of my knowledge, being put on enemy by someone with shit karma doesn't make much of a difference to yours, if any.

Also remember, I don't read everything. If that thread had been in Random Banter, I'd probaby have left it to either drop off the bottom or let the locals play with it.

I try to keep the workshop to workshop stuff. Even some of the threads by the more shouty teens who know they are right and everyone else is wrong have at least something usefu in them (even if that's someone finding a thread asking how to derestrict a CG125 and seeing advice that they should do their test with an entertaining flounce on the end).

So whom are you referring to as the "previous fucknugget"?

That guy had some venomous oppinions that, I think, are best tackled head-on in the open.

He was actually banned for posting gay porn in the end.

I find the concept of the F&FW section somewhat bizarre, in that karma can't be dished out, so despite what the name implies, people can't slug it out in there!

I'm not sure why F&FW is a karma free zone, especially as seems to offer an element of protection to certain parties!

My specific question is, if someone sets me to enemy do I take a karma hit for that sole action?

You'll find it's very rapidly a karma free zone if you keep posting in there.

It's a place to put threads which are in a terminal spiral or that are getting nasty to die. Also threads which have degenerated into a tit-for-tat karma ratings war. Think of it as a way for mods to kill a thread without actually locking or deleting it (muh freedoms of speeches).

While you remain perfectly at liberty to do so, I think continuing to post in a F&FW thread is possibly the single most damaging thing you can do to your karma.

In regard to your other question, only Korn knows the intricacies of the karma algorithm but I suspect the effect of being enemied is proportional to the rating of ther person doing the enemying. It's even possible that being enemied by someone with very bad karma might improve yours. I do know other aspects of the system work that way.

I distinctly recall being told that if your karma is low, your negative ratings have little to no effect.

Also that giving negative karma can actually mean you reduce your own karma if it's particularly off-trend but gains you karma if it follows the majority oppinion.

All that aside. Why someone on 4 yellows is even bothered....

I *believe* Spelling and punctuation make a much bigger difference than you'd think. Especially compared to ratings given/received in the non motorcycling sections.

Did they not teach G.I. Joe as part of Bovine Proctology school? ...curious. Thinking

I disagree on the last part though, I typo constantly and cant punctuate for shit. (possibly doesn't count if you edit it out before someone else posts)

One person setting you as enemy isn't going to make much difference.

If you're ever short on karma blobs, all you've got to do is post a stupid question or a pointless reply in the workshop forum.

Edit your posts and it gets recalculated.

It really doesn't matter how much karma you've got unless you go red or black.

Users who consider you an enemy

Harold_Shand, SillyMe, wizz, meanbikes, RubberGently, MoshizZ, blue2, Berk, Ribenapigeon, hoxtonuk, SimonB, BanMe, CieL, SmallDraw

Some of those people are spammers who haven't been on here for more than ten years. Oh well. Laughing

I'm sure the karma system will be greatly improved in the next version of BCF which I'm reliably informed is right on schedule.
