Hello peeps

I've bought a really rough er5 for £300 , MOT'd until March 17 .

I've only got it for the elephant rally in Feb so not worried about the looks but want it reliable .
So
The clutch is rubbish so I'm going to change it , going to go wemoto EBC but any hints and tips ,
The kit for sale shows plates and springs , do I need any thing else ?

Thank you

Chris

Clutch cover gasket.

Oil and filter. Although my preferrence is to lean the bike way over to the left, change the plates withut dropping the oil, run it for a few miles THEN do an oil and filter change after all the loose yak off the new friction plates has been rubbed off and collected by the filter.

Incidentally, a set of genuine kawasaki clutch plates and springs is usually cheaper than an EBC set. Try Fowlers parts.

For the elephant, make sure the coolant filters leading to and from the carb anti-icing system aren't blocked.

If you're gong to check the tappets, order two new rocker box coolant pipe o-rings when you order the clutch bits.

Double-check the torque settings for the springs, and use a torque wrench for those - they should be equal and neither too tight nor loose.

Be patient with gasket scraping - no shortcuts - because it's easy to gouge the aluminium surfaces, and you don't want to start all over just because of a leak.

Have silicone sealant ready, because it needs to be applied in two places where the top and bottom halves of the engine casing are welded together.

If you're a cheapskate, you might get away with dumping your old oil into a pan and reusing it, or just tilting the bike to the side on its sidestand as mentioned above.

Make sure you soak your new clutch plates well before installation, and be careful on your first couple of rides after reassembly. Run all the way up and down the gears at low speed. Expect a couple of hairy moments as the new plates can be stubborn at first.

Thank you , these were the hints I needed .

I will look at the fowlers for the plates and check the filters for the anti freeze , good surgestion .

I didn't know about soaking them , I take it in oil , I'm liking the oil change after the new plates go in .

Again thank you and BCF .

Cheers
Chris
