Hi

Went out to the garage to discover a completely flat rear tyre on the KTM. Didn't take long to establish what might have deflated it Sad

I'm thinking that's a) pretty big and b) pretty close to the edge and as such this one's now a dud?

Another question - They're a matching set of Contisport Attack's at the moment front and back. The front looks like it's got loads of life left in it, so I guess I should go for a replacement Contisport Attack rear so as to retain a matching set, albeit one much older than the other. Would it be worth swapping up to the Contisport Attack 2 (or is there even a 3 out nowadays?) so that when the front needs changing I'm moving onto the latest version?

Cheers for the help.

Arry.

I reckon that'll plug.

I bet the bit sticking through the cacasse is nowhere near as big as the flattened over end that's in the normal wear part of the tyre.

I bet you'd have to ream the hole out to fitt a temporary plug repair in there.

Temporary plug in this should be temporary. Looks like it has gone in at an angle but moved around quite a lot, good chance of hidden damage, take off the rim to do properly. The position looks ok to me, but in the grey area where a professional will want to sell a new tyre.

I would not recommend matching sets. I like to have a fast turning sticky front, but a durable and excellent wet grip rear. Never used contisports..
Supercorsa/racetec front
Michelin PR4 rear.

I am assuming you are not a DIY'er, so wont be removing yourself. Be aware you can buy pretty much new rear tyres in 180/55/17 for 30 quid delivered with a proper puncture repair already done.

Borderline by the looks of it, have you pulled/screwed it all the way out?
That will give you more of an idea.

That should plug okay with a proper vulcanized repair I would say.

I usually go down to my tyre guy with the loose wheel and ask his opinion. If he says he'd ride on it, then I'll ride on it.

Got a puncture in my racetec rear ages ago and took it to him. Had a trackday planned and said would you ride on that on a trackday - he said yep no problem. That's enough for me Thumbs Up

Thanks guys, appreciated.

Having reviewed local options I've managed to find a mobile fitter who is coming round this week to have a look. Sent him pics and he's of same opinion that it's borderline but might be alright. He's bringing a tyre with him on the day so if it can't be fixed then he'll have one on the van to replace.

Lazy way of dealing with it, and it's costing many more ponds of course, but been bare busy lately and just need a hassle free option.

Cheers.

Sorted.

Upon closer inspection, tyre didn't have a lot of life in it anyway so economically it wasn't really worth repairing, so new one on.

I'm not sure I'd have been happy having this repaired anyway:

Anyways, hopefully weather will be good tomorrow and I can go scrub it in a bit.

Right hand side nearly scrubbed now - albeit it really didn't need a lot of scrubbing TBH, was pretty confident in it from the start. Got this far over:

Not too bad for 60 miles or so of easy ish riding.

For some reason I had nowhere near the confidence on the left hand side though; it felt bloody slippy. Couldn't think why:

Oh.

Well that was full. Something's knocked it out of adjustment I guess when the wheel went back on. Doh.
