Wow, he did it again? Almost a year ago to the day since the first time, looks identical too.

I'm pretty sure I said then what I'll say again now: what a plonker.

Sure, it's an instinctive reaction to try and protect her, but what's he doing? Grabbing her arm and creating a nice big lever to more easily snap both of their limbs. They're both going in more or less the same direction, will end up in much the same place anyway, and he's no more likely to be on a safe trajectory than she is.

Apologies for chatting in a video thread.

The thing that stuck out for me is, he immediately yanked her helmet down in order to straighten it - thought that was a big no-no with regard to stabilising the neck and spine?

Yup, and he made her stand up almost as soon as they stopped sliding. It's like a how to maximise/exacerbate any possible injury master-class.

Incidentally, can anyone tell why they went down? Looked like they were riding in a straight line and then suddenly the bike wobbles and down they go? Riding too fast for the conditions, even in a straight line?

I'd guess they aquaplaned, and he lost the front

She could do with a helmet that fits for a start.

I'd say the way he did it, if there was anything to hit, he'd have hit it first.

I'd imagine a human body gives better protection from impact than any given cheese and pickle sandwich.

The first time we discussed this, we turned up a nugget that he was riding on nearly slick tyres, and hit a significant sideways flow of water.

Two slices of Edam and cabbage, which is what she'd have been after that mauling if she'd had any sort of neck injury.

Keep telling my Mrs her chinstrap needs to be tighter, finally after showing her this video she gets why I say it.
It's not supposed to be comfortable, it's supposed to keep the damn thing on your head while you are otherwise
occupied flying through the air/sliding along the ground.

I almost always ride with a rucksack, in the past when I've come off the rucksack just rips off.

In regards to what the guy did I'd say it's the right thing, protect her for when they hit the barriers (which they didn't). Don't over react about him moving the helmet or getting her to stand up, they didn't hit anything so wouldn't be hurt.

You mean apart from the solid road surface right? That alone could have whipped her neck enough to cause a fracture.

Watching this a few times over and I think he may have been concerned that she was going to slide off the road and into the verge, which potentially would have left her more open to injury.

You got any vids of that happening you could send me? The road was very wet, not just a little. I could send you a load of videos of people coming off, sliding down the road then getting up because they were wearing gear. Being wet there won't be as much friction so the head won't rip off.

Meh, you're all romantics.
He's spotted an opportunity for improvised body surfing but he couldn't clamber on top of her quick enough.
Should have gone quicker.

Friction of the road surface has got nothing to do with your head bouncing off the tarmac and you come from being 6ft up on the bike and land on the road.
