Your experience of the CELTA course is not unique. I used to train CELTA students. Most of them are stressed on the 1 month course. This is why a lot of people prefer the 2 month or 3 month slower course.

Anyway:

Did you actually pass? A lot of people think oh just because I pay for the course it's a birdy course - that they will simply fly through it and are guaranteed a pass ~ They aren't and many are surprised when they don't pass. In our training centre we gave out transcripts on the last day to tell people if they passed or not. The transcript is the important part not so much the certificate as it allows wherever you work in the future to check if your certificate is genuine.

If you didn't or the cert was lost then you learned a very hard and expensive lesson. You have to kowtow to those who have power grit your teeth and bear it this is the way of the world.

Lastly CELTA? If you are who I think you are last time I talked to you was in 2012. What has me concerned is it has taken you four maybe five years just to get the absolute base line qualification for ESL?

Didn't I tell you to aim higher and actually improve yourself? Yet 5 years later you're still doing gap yeah jobs? I mean the people who I trained for CELTA 5-6 years ago are getting the DELTA qualifications or their MA/MEd and pre-qualification teaching doesn't count for anything.

Your CELTA also may not open as many doors as you think.

If you haven't noticed teachers are treated like crap in the UK what with the they get 17 weeks holiday and it's not a real job type mentality with paperwork and homework that does itself etc. As a result 1000s of fully qualified teachers have left the UK to seek their fortunes overseas. So you're competing against these types of people.

In my Sandbox job everybody was a PGCE or MA at the very minimum even though it was just a facade they still wanted highly qualified folks to give them credibility.

No there are courses in the UK. The intensive one lasts one month.

I haven't been a CELTA trainer for a while but it requires:

4 written assignments

Grammar task
Evaluate a learner using an interview and written task evaluate their weaknesses in English speaking ability and create an action plan based on your findings
Design your own lesson
+Other we picked out of a bag which was a variation of one of the above usually it was a co-teach or a mystery teach to learners you don't know.

It was then 15 hours of teaching and either 6 or 8 observed classes. You need 6 grade 3 or above (1 is best 4 is a fail) classes. These classes can be as short as 15 minutes and as long as 45 minutes.

You also need to observe a qualified teacher for at least 10-15 hours (dependent on the centre in question).

At the end of it you get a level 5 certificate which is equal to PTTLS or DTTLS. These two qualifications are the first 2-3 weeks trainee teachers do on their PGCE.

Essentially it's a load of box ticking and you have to teach THEIR way. Their way is simply a teach test teach method. You teach something evaluate it then teach a little more and build on what you just taught.

1) passed.

2) if anything, I gave her crap. If she could have failed me she would I'm sure. She could not. She bullied others, a lot. Everyone on our group passed, I would like to think I helped.

3) it got sent to my sister, will consider how to deal with it later.

4) I did other shit. Celta is insurance, but not overly necessary. I take your point though, and had I sat unqualified in a chinese cram school unqualified I would be thoroughly upset with myself Laughing

5) The sandboxes attract the uk flock, I am well in tge Asian area and have my own ideas afoot Smile

6) I did actually learn an awful lot on it though, and it was money well spent.

7) yes it is me. My urge to stay out of the uk overcame the irritation of teaching for now.

When abolish speed cameras and regulate the insurance industry.

So, not.

OK, cool. Good luck. I can sort of understand where you're coming from. China does things one way, and the UK another. Or so it appears. Or perhaps there is no UK or China, and it's just a world made up of mental states: pleasure and pain, with the inescapable absolute truths of death and decay. After all, we can't buy health, and we don't know when death is coming. And the only reward mechanism your brain can offer you, no matter where you go or what you achieve or what sacrifices and toil you went through to get it, is a 3-beer feeling - optimum serotonin level, and anything beyond that is where things get dangerous. You know what you're doing I'm sure.

Never say never.
