Quite fancy a google home when it launches 4th Nov in the states. I have contacts in the states and could get one..........but apart from the red version of utube the states have, what else makes it a USA only piece.

Anyone know if it would work in the U.K. as is? Can't find any info to find out.

I'm not sure about the Google Home but my mate has got an Amazon Echo Dot coming in the next few days that he's been pretty excited about and they seem to have a decent following of nerds that are using them in useful roles such as a spoken interface to home automation equipment.

I'm not particularly 'techy' but I'm quite liking the idea of these supplementing a tablet/phone based menu as the front end of my pending home automation project.

Looked at echo, but reviews on the google home seem to think it can reply 'nested' conversations, not one word commands that have to match app details.

One example given 'How many Grammy's has Adele got, and when did she get them' google could match the 'she' to the question and answer both parts as a one sentence reply........I like that.

I also like the daily diary with weather and traffic reports it can give. Reviews on Echo are iffy on recognition and replies.

I think google have the steal on this technology.

Google Home also [supposedly] remembers the thread of the conversation, so if you said "How many Grammys has Adele got" - and then a separate "...how old is she?" - it'd remember that 'she' was 'Adele' and answer accordingly.

I love the idea - I already use Google Now all of the time, especially when on the bike - (e.g. when I think of things that I need to do I ask it to remind me at certain times - it also plays music requests for me, makes calls, tells me the time etc) - when at home I use it to Google things or set timers, it's a genuinely useful tech.

I already have a Nest thermostat and several Nest Protects dotted around the house (along with smart lights), I'll definitely be getting a Google Home (or two) when they're available - I'll be waiting for the UK version though.

There was a fair delay between the echo coming out in the states and in the uk, think it was a couple of years, don't quote me on that though. If the same applies to Google's offering then better off trying the yank version or get the echo.

I like the echo, does come in handy, speaker itself isn't great so better off with a dot and connect it do a better speaker / hifi etc. Pairing dots with my beoplay s3's is 10 times better than the echo. Decent development with apps so things that didn't work last week now work etc.

The echo falls down by not being smart enough to have a conversation with / understand nested questions so if the Home can do that then it will have a massive edge.
