 |
|
Hi,
as my peugeot speedshite 2 100cc "prost" has gone BOOM (bad seizure)
as its still on finance i owe £1200 on it still so i am getting a £2500 loan to get a new (second hand) bike and pay off the speedshite
then i will either break the speedshite for parts or fix it in my spare time... or burn it?
so for £1500 what can i get... needs to be 4 stroke and reliable
the obv choice is the CG 125 or the yamaha Sr 125
i have found a 2003 yamaha Sr 125 with 700 miles on the clock for £1450 which is still under warrenty
anyone have any other ideas? |

You can pick up an NSR for less than 1500. I picked mine up for a grand. ____________________ https://www.bikepics.com/members/nsrandy/96rs250/ My Bike!

I bought my NSR for £1400 and sold it for £1300 a year later. You're not losing out on anything. They're good bikes.  ____________________ Honda NSR125R -> Suzuki GSXR400R GK76a -> Kawasaki ZX636 B1H -> Honda CBR400RR NC29 -> Nothing  |

Why does it need to be a 4 stroke... bit confused on that?
As for reliability, well that's going to depend on the previous owner and how well you treat it. Add in a big bucket of 'luck' as well.
From adtrader; all well within your area, yes some are 2 strokes... but for the price of some of them you could aford to buy it and get another one as a backup in comparison to an expensive 4 stroke.
The only thing an NSR won't do over a cg125 is the cost of actually using it. NSR still isn't that bad, but the cg is really cheap on petrol.
Also... just a thought on new bikes; my old NSR that was eleven years old was more reliable than a less than a year old NSR I later used for a bit.

I say get the cheap H100 two stroke, thrash it around and enjoy biking in it's most basic form . You will get dead cheap insurance, have as much power as the 4 Stroke 125s and restricted bikes, and have an oftern overlooked cheep to run piece of Honda's history that wont cost you much to repair When you crash it. And you should be able to sell it for what you paid for it if you look after it.
Go on..... It makes sense

RXS100 is another good 100cc 2 stroke. Looks better than the H100, too IMHO ____________________ Current: CB500 Previous: CB100N, CB250RS, XJ900F, GT550, GPZ750R/1000RX, AJS M16, R100RT, Enfield Bullet

Why not try https://www.motorcyclenews.com - goto buy a bike and enter the type and your postcode. That'll give you a good idea what's in your area. Pick from suggestions already in this thread or see what other 125 you fancy. Can sort by distance from you or price.

Ad Trader is good for finding bikes next you.
You can quite easily get a CG125 type bike for £400 which will work and not have to sell it for much less than you bought it for and it will do just about everything a £1500 one will do, however a £1500 one there is still not going to be a big dropped in value as long as you do look after it and don't abuse it too much. There will always be some drop in value and it will get some marks on it as it is quite likely that you will drop it. There isn't any point in spending more than about £1500 as a £1500 bike will do just about as much as a £3000 one will do without there being such a big drop in value, so if you do want and can afford a £1500 there is no real reason why not to get one. As it will be a bit more fun than a £400 one, it'll still do pretty much all the same stuff, okay the £1500 will be a bit faster but not much else. It's just the same as everyone saying we should all be riding £500 old GPZ bikes as they'll still do all the stuff we need them to do. |
