I’ve just bought a Kawasaki ER-6 F. Used to ride one years ago and forgot what fun bikes they are. My only gripe - and one that I noticed originally was the crap mirrors. They’re on the front fairing and I’m used to seeing a lot more in my mirrors, not most of my arm and a bit of what’s behind me. Has anyone else noticed this (and on other bikes with the mirrors on the front fairing) and are there any better replacements?

They stand up and angle out quite a bit, I set mine so I could see the tops of my knuckles on my middle, ring and
pinky of each hand in the bottom of the mirror lens. That worked okay for me, saw more road than me in mine anyway.
Kawasaki do some bolt on extension pieces that aren't terribly dear.

The mirrors on my CBR6 are made for 6 stone Japanese men, it's all elbows and beer gut.

Many moons ago I made some extenders from aluminium flat stock, I forget they are there until I ride someone else's bike:

When I had an ER6f I had the same issue.

I bought a set of these - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Mirror-Extenders-Spacers-Kawasaki-ER-6F-ER6F-Ninja-400R-650R-400-650-2009-2012-/262600142845?hash=item3d24302ffd:m:mHuoGTtmLYen6PWp0HaodLA

I never ended up fitting them. By the time they arrives from China I'd got used to what I could(n't) see. I'm not sure where they are, but I'll have a look tonight and see I've still got them.

Bloody buggering mirrors, I am so triggered by them.

GPZ500S: useless fairing mirrors.
Ninja 250R: useless fairing mirrors.
ER6F: ...wouldn't surprise me.

On the GPZ, I cut-and-shut the fairing mirror stalks, extending them with some threaded rod and body filler. They were still less than ideal, and made filtering a pain.

On the Ninja, I noticed that the hand controls already had rubber-bunged threads for regular stalk mirrors, so just fitted a pair of universal mirrors. Cheaper than extenders, far, far better at actually seeing behind you, plus easier to wiggle through traffic.

If the ER6F has threads on the controls (and I suspect it will since it's essentially an ER6N in a frock), I'd just skip straight to standard mirrors and save yourself a lot of messing around.

I can see a damn sight more out of them than I ever could out of the ones on the R125, so I'm quite happy with them.

As grr666 suggested, have a good mess about with them in all possible configurations. It took me a little while to get the best view out of them but, imo it is possible to get a decent view from them.

EDIT: My one real gripe with them is, if you fold them in to get through narrow gaps and you need to turn, the left one will push in your clutch lever and the right one will do the same to your front brake lever. Laughing

Was my first thought too and was what I did on my CB500 which had a full fairing with equally shite mirrors. The ER6 has heated grip controls covering where these threads should be on the left and I think the master cylinder is covering the right one.

That's surprising, but Google's image bank seems to confirm that Kawasaki-san have actually gone to the bother of fitting different controls on the N and F. Eh?

Kawasaki apparently have even admitted that their mirrors are crap:

Quote:
The qualitative improvements have also bypassed the ER-6f’s mirrors, which are the worst I’ve used on any recent Japanese bike. That they’re set too narrow is admitted by Kawasaki, which unusually lists mirror extensions in its options list, and there are even aluminium-stem alternatives that look as though they stretch wider, although I haven’t tried them. With the standard mirrors, even when you’ve swung your elbow inwards to get some semblance of a rear view, the image is badly fuzzed by vibration and distorted at the edges of the cheap glass. This is Chinese scooter stuff and has no place here.
