 |
|
As you might know or have read my thread about this project ages ago, when this thing was introduced, the FGR is 'finally'' launching their production version of the Midalu 2500 V6. Made in Czech rep., by FGR. I'd give you some specs, but there are none so far (262 kg dry, 2442 ccm V6 engine, DOHC 24 valves, liquid cooled and fuel injected, 6 speed gearbox). They did announce the price though, which is mental: 3,000,000CZK, roughly £90,000.
The prototype from 2011, had far less carbon fiber composit on it, all the bits, the front fender included, were painted white and the motorcycle had a simple classic round headlight.

Only needs a disc lock, no one would be strong enough to lift it in to a van. ____________________ Currently riding: Suzuki EN125 | Previous rides: Vespa 125PX, Yamaha SR125 |

Czech government gave them 200,000,000CZK to finish the project, £6.5m. The initial idea behind this was, that Czech rep. once was the biggest producer of motorcycles (old outdated two strokes, that no body wanted) and this was supposed to be something like that. Well, the dreams and ideas of the actuall engineers were different and resulted in this £90k motorcycle, that no one in Czech rep. will ever buy. Plus, as I know people here, their marketing strategy is, well there is none. So no one living abroad is ever going to know about this.
It's not the only project of this sort, heavily funded from the taxpayers money with no real marketing and promo towards actually selling the product.
Even when ''made in Czech rep.'' stuff is far superior to the rest of the things on the market, even when it's the best value for the money etc., etc., no one will ever know about it, as Czechs can't do marketing.
If I never told you about the FGR, you would never even known about it, and that is my point here. ____________________ '87 Honda XBR 500, '96 Kawasaki ZX7R P1, '90 Honda CB-1, '88 Kawasaki GPz550, MZ 150 ETZ

FGR was ''known'' for building 125cc race motorcycles, then some one in the factory had an idea to build the most powerful production motorcycle in the world (240bhp in 2009 or so). I remeber the policitians patting their backs and talking about the ''glory'' days of Czech motorcycle industry, when they agreed on financing the project from the tax payers money.
I was sceptial from the begining, to be honest and I still am about the FGR. I mean, imagine you are a owner of a no-name company and you walk to your bank and ask for this kind of money to build a 2.5L V6 motorcycle.
The decision of our Gov. was gulible and uninformed. Even back then, there were more than apleanty of failed projects like this. The Horex ''resurection'' project (VR6) was in about 2010/2011, where are they now? MZ/Muz was quite the same story and they had quite a renowned brand name and made motorcycles, that ordinary people could actually afford.
If FGR made a A2 friendly bike or even an ordinary sports motorcycle, with an ordinary engine, then I would take them seriously. Let's hope they will be as clever about selling these as they were when they begged for the money. Rich Russians and Oil tycoons sure would want such extraordinary thing. ____________________ '87 Honda XBR 500, '96 Kawasaki ZX7R P1, '90 Honda CB-1, '88 Kawasaki GPz550, MZ 150 ETZ

I was expecting it to be heavier. Looks like you'd need really long arms to ride it |
