Well that didn`t turn out to well Evil or Very Mad I had a little tour out on the bike and was going to post on here.
I went to my Photobucket account to upload the pictures so I could put them on here.

And I find that all my previous pictures are all gone and when I try to upload new ones, they`re all HUGE! and it wont let me reduce them to upload to another site (here)?
This isn`t the first time that I`ve had issues with Photobucket.

So can anyone recommend a picture hosting site that is easy to use by someone who is not very tec savvy please.

resize before hosting online?

Postimage and IMGsafe are both quicker than photobucket, don't know if they allow resizing though (I know post images resizes to thumbnails.)

postimage are as good as any just now, if you create an account you can make galleries too but use the thumbnail and link to larger and they do have some *interesting* adverts not suitable for everywhere you might want to post an image. Rolling Eyes
I think they are based in Russia so might be wise not to use your main email.

Eventually no doubt things will go wrong and they'll get greedy.

Photobucket, I'm sorry to say, is the only photo hosting site I've tried that's kept my images up and working for the long term.

There are articles I've posted on here that are nearly 10 years old and the images still work.

Flickr used to let them drop off the bottom (doesn't now, but I lost a lot of images that way) and is a pain in the arse to hotlink from.

Picasa became google and broke all the hotlinks.

Google itself can break a hotlink within minutes of posting it.

Imageshack. Nope.

Dropbox kicks you off after a period of disuse.

So yeah, annoying though it is, I'm still paying for a basic photobucket account. The thing that really annoys me is its habit of ordering pictures by EXIF date and time instead of upload date. Also no ability to search by filename (what sort of weird-arse system is that?). If I upload an old picture. It's a bastard to find it again.

What I should do is rent some webspace/bandwidth and host images myself. With an intelligent approach to backup, even if the whole lot goes down, any hotlinks should be able to be resurrected. I'm just too lazy to learn how.

Why hasn't anyone mentioned https://www.imgur.com yet?

I've been sing it for years and the pic size limit pretty huge.

The maximum file size for non-animated images is 20MB. The maximum file size for GIFs is 200MB. GIF files over 2MB will be converted to GIFVs. PNG files over 5MB will be converted to JPEGs.

I hate to admit it, but I agree with CaNsA. Imgur is great for hosting images.

Never had a problem with PB, not had any resizing issues, never paid them a penny either!
Mind you, I don't take super high resolution, massive file size, photos.
The other thing I've noticed is, PB is shite if you're using a mobile device, (phone or tablet), it's much easier to use and less crash happy if you're using a desktop or laptop!

Agree with that personally. Also used PB for years and never had any big issues with it even on free-status accounts.

Might be okay on newer phones but my S3 dies a horrible death if I try access it via mobile, thats the only thing I could complain about so far.

The only time i've had pictures disappear (and it was temporarily) was when the free-accounts bandwidth got exceeded. Theres lots of freeware batch compression/resizing software which can be quicker than doing it via the hosting websites too.

I upload via the PB phone App as it's less laggy than PC...and the website is slower than it was a few years ago.

The PB website doesn't like adblocker.

Used it since I started on here and all links still work.

Storage is 27% full

Me doing the clearances for the 1st time.

Anyway. Why are you resizing them after uploading?

So you're uploading the full size picture file then shrinking it after upload. That seems arse about tit.

If I want to resize images, I use GIMP with Davids batch processor addon.

Very simple and super quick. You select the files, choose how much you want to resize by, specify the file output type (or it'll default to .bmp) and modify the file name if you want to save them in the same folder as the originals. I find adding a 1 prefix groups all the resized images together.

Why bother resizing them?

When using imgur, add a single lower-case L before the file extension to the URL and it will auto resize to a large thumbnail.

Handy for when BCF skews the pic and throws it all out of whack because BCF can't auto resize correctly.

I don't, I just upload all mine full size because I have a paid for account and it'll save them full size. Worth noting that the free accounts also now save the original size image (they used to resize them for you anyway) and it's surprising how quickly you can fill it with large images. If you're only ever displaying them on the web (I use mine more as a kind of cloud backup), resizing before upload makes a degree of sense.

Never seem to have a problem with the size they appear on a website. There was only one forum I use that had issues resizing them and that was the old ratbike bulletin board, but it dated back to the stone age.

I always wrap the direct link in [img] tags rather than use the BBcode link supplied.

So like this image which is fucking enormous:
https://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f216/stinkwheel/dragon%202010/dragonsite_small.png

Umm. If this image actually is causing someone hassle, just say and I'll take it off again.
