I have been looking for something newer/different to add to my stable.
and this came along at a not to high price.
https://i955.photobucket.com/albums/ae39/pepperami2/IMG_02941.jpg

It`s not perfect by a long way, but hey ho it`s done now, I`ve gone and bought it.
The seat is like a plank Shocked , and you could never go more than 50 miles on it in one go let alone proper long distances.
So I will need to do something about the seat.
I`m not convinced the speedo is anywhere near accurate.
One thing is for sure, I`ll be hard pressed to get speeding tickets Thumbs Up
It`s a b-road bike and that`s fine because that`s what I bought it for.
https://i955.photobucket.com/albums/ae39/pepperami2/IMG_02961.jpg

Yes yes I know I could of bought a Hybusa/Blackbird/GSXR1100 for the same money, but that not what I wanted. Maybe next year.
Sorry the pics are so BIG! Laughing

Its probably quite a sensible purchase. The build quality might even be close to the current crop of so-called mainstream bikes on the market. They feel like proper bikes and I reckon that they look good too. Enough around (worldwide) to pick up tips on maintenance, repairs etc. Yes, well done Thumbs Up

It's one of those instances where practicality has to outweigh esthetics.

Congrats on your new bike, looks pretty substantial! It's not immediately screaming "fall to bits", far from it.

Surprised the seat is harsh, it looks inches thick.

Hi

The bike is a Zhongshen RX-3, aka Honley Venturer 250 (Should be a 450 along in the not too distant future)

Hello, I have one of these Smile, You might find this to be quite handy ..

https://www.cscmotorcycles.com/RX3-Tutorials-s/282.htm

The speedo, definately not very accurate, about 10mph out.

It's perfectly capable of A road, and motorway riding, well, it easily keeps up with traffic on the M6, can even overtake as well Smile

I don't find the seat uncomfortable, and I've taken it on a few 100+ mile rides, but then perhaps I just have enough natural padding !!

The stock headlight, is somewhat on the weak side, I tried an LED replacement, but I didn't like the pattern, so I've gone for a higher wattage H4 bulb instead, just have to keep an eye out to make sure I don't melt the relecto !!

Mine rides really well in the crappy weather, however after 1 especially bad and extended downpour, my engine management light is now on, I've ried resetting it by disconnecting the battery for a couple of days, but no joy. I may ride up to Huddersfield one day, and get Honley to have a look, if I can't clear the error myself. The bike itself is riding fine, so i reckon it's just a sensor that affected by the water.

Hmmm. Actually. Not bad!

Saw one that looked the same in a Chinese 'specialist dealer' near me. Not sure of the make/model, but in fairness it looked like it was nailed together better than my Jinlun...

Updates please, in case one comes up cheap locally and I go nuts...

Except, the 'luggage' would have to be removed... Unless the photos don't it justice? Look like three Thomas the Tank Engine lunch boxes.

Laughing Lunch boxes! yer actually that`s about right, you`re not going to get enough in them for a inter-continental road trip.
But if you`re going away for the week-end or just a few days, those lunch boxes will be fine.
They do come off, but for now they can stay there and this bike can be my shopping bike?, saves having a little wicker basket on the front Smile

There are larger luggae boxes available, don't know if you can order them through Honley, but you certainly can via tabao. As you can see here.

https://gd2.alicdn.com/bao/uploaded/i2/TB1P05yFVXXXXcDXFXXXXXXXXXX_!!0-item_pic.jpg_600x600.jpg

https://sea.taobao.com/item/en/41575040318.htm?spm=a1z3o.7406521.101.322.OuCYn1

When ordering from Tabao, I use tabaoring .

https://www.taobaoring.com/

So far, I've not had a problem with them. Of course, you may be able to order through, Honley, certainly CSC in the states and possibly Romet in Poland, and the list goes on ..

Cheers

Tony

That Chinese link/photo from linuxyeti shows what I believe to be the upgrade screen (apparently not available on UK bikes, but I may be wrong). Seem to recall that one of the US guys who did the inaugural roadtrip when the bikes first hit the states mentioned how much better it was. In fact, he maybe even raved about it Neutral There's a youtube vid about it - they go around with a bunch of Chinese prize winners, or something Confused

Hi

Again, you can get the screen direct from China, if you want, and i'm sure if you want, you could order from CSC, along with a centre stand as well.

Cheers

Did I do the conversion right on the price of the upgraded panniers? Four hundred quid? Are they not shameless knock offs of the Triumph ones on the 800 Tigers?

Hi

Yep, that conversion seems about right, don't forget, you have to add delivery, customs & agent markup on that. As for being Tiger knockoffs, well, there's only so much you can do with a box shape.

No doubt, if you want to increase your luggage on there, the easiest option would be to get a larger top box, and fit that. I have considered that myself, but to be honest, you can fit a surprisingly large amount in the standard panniers, if packed well Smile

As for the screen, you can get a tall screen for all of £9.00 + agent fees & postage from tabao

https://sea.taobao.com/item/en/40137137656.htm?spm=a1z3o.7406521.101.605.7n3OmX

The biggest cost by far will be the postage, but on the plus side, the cost of the item is below the import tax threshold !! Smile

I like the idea of the 450, but I'm not sure how useful it'll be for me, given that I'll be doing mega motorway miles as a commute.
It's a shame, because the Chinese bikes are clearly improving as time goes by.

You'd be surprised. I racked up alot of motorway miles taking my old 250 Jinlun from Tidworth to Cardiff regularly. The asthmatic copy of an old honda twin did fine at legal speeds, returned great MPG and consumables lasted ages.

That Honley 250 has a better lump with more power.

A little update : I thought I had an oil leak already Shocked , but it turns out the previous owner had not done up an inspection cover up tight enough,Phew!
She`s a bit of a sod to tick over when cold? even with fuel injection?
But as it had been sitting for a long while before I bought it, I`m going to put a couple of tanks of fresh fuel through it before I start mucking about with it.
I found a couple of loose bolts, but they are now sorted.

She went to the Copdock Bike Show today with no dramas other than stalling once.
The roads were a bit wet this morning when I went to the bike show and I cant say that the tyres inspired that much confidence.
However that might be cos I`m a pussy Wink

It seems strange to sit upright after having sports styled bikes for so long?

EDIT : I didn`t buy much at the show and all I bought fitted in the lunch box panniers Thumbs Up
